Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC)
South Barrington is a member of the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC). As a SWANCC member, a number of programs are available to our residents.
The Village of South Barrington will hold its Annual Electronic Recycling event on Saturday, September 21, 2019 from 9 a.m. to Noon. Please stay tuned for more information as we get closer to this date.

Due to recent changes in legislation, the following items listed will no longer be accepted at SWANCC events or at permanent drop off locations as they can thrown away in the garbage. If these items are able to be donated, please see SWANCC’s Reuse and Recycling Directory on donation locations.

SWANCC Drop-off Information
The Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) continues to provide permanent and seasonal drop off stations as well as one day events. Their at-home program runs from May-Sept. Many retail stores allow drop off during evening or weekend hours. For program details or other options, visit the SWANCC site:
Groot
The Village has a contract with Groot for residential garbage and recycling pick up. Municipal Code requires that residents participate in the service which operates in the Village on Mondays. Read the brochure below for more information. Yard waste stickers are available at the Village Hall during the season of April – November. You may call Groot at 800-244-1977.

Recycling Tips
Yard Waste
Residents will have landscape waste collections weekly from April 1st through November 30th as follows:
- Landscape waste stickers: Residents must purchase a landscape waste sticker and place it on a biodegradable yard waste bag when set out for collection.
- All yard waste material must be placed in a Kraft paper type yard waste bag. Any brush or branches outside of the container or bag must be cut down to 4 feet in length and bundled no greater than 2 feet in diameter and a sticker must be affixed to each bundle. Yard waste in plastic bags will NOT be collected.
- Grass clippings, leaves, twigs, garden debris, weeds, fruits, seeds, stalks, vines are acceptable landscape items.
- Landscape does not include wood timbers, plastic edging, plant pots or trays, fertilizer or landscape material bags, landscape fabric, root sections, bark, wood chips, sand, gravel, sod, firewood, rocks, excess amounts of dirt or animal waste.
