Please be aware that no one representing the Village of South Barrington will come to your door or call you asking you to switch to a new supplier or enroll. These solicitors are not associated with the Village of South Barrington or ComEd. Take their information and report the incident to the ICC at www.icc.illinois.gov/complaints. Never reveal your ComEd account number or allow a solicitor to view your ComEd bill unless you are certain you wish to enroll with that supplier and have read all terms and conditions.

Keep in mind that any solicitor coming to your door needs to present and have visible at all times a Village of South Barrington Solicitors Permit. If they do not have or present a permit, call the South Barrington Police Department at 847-381-7511. If a solicitor representing an electric supplier comes to your door or calls you, please make sure to protect your personal information. Do not show or give copies of your current electric statement or provide your account number and details of your current electric account to a solicitor. This will help you protect your information from being unknowingly used to sign you up for another electric supplier. If you experience deceptive electric service marketing, please call the Illinois Commerce Commission at 1-800-534-0795.

If you choose to opt-in to a private electricity program (other than ComEd), shop carefully! Below you will find a helpful list that can assist if you are researching potential electric suppliers.

• Check the Better Business Bureau and Internet for customer reviews and complaints
• Check to see if there are low promotional rates that can climb significantly after the first month or two
• Variable rates change monthly or daily with market conditions
• Contracts that are renewed automatically
• Sign-on fees or high late-payment fees
• Cancellation fees or any other penalties for switching to a new supplier or back to your old one
