Dear Residents,
Weather has been on the minds of many of us lately especially after many of you sheltered in place at one of our Board meetings this month due to tornados hitting our area. And just this week, we were hit with even more tornado warnings.
The Village is now applying for a grant for tornado sirens to give residents more advance warning when there are tornados in our area. Hopefully, we are able to secure the necessary funds to purchase these sirens. I will keep you posted.
INDEPENDENCE DAY & AMERICA250
America turns 250 this year, making the Fourth of July celebrations this year bigger, better, and much more festive.
South Barrington has fully embraced this once-in-a-generation celebration by participating in the America250 initiative. We are signing the South Barrington America250 Flag, creating a unique community keepsake that will remain at Village Hall for this year and then be buried in South Barrington’s Conservancy as a time capsule of this historic anniversary. (Don’t forget, there is still time to sign!)
We dedicated our Arbor Day tree as the official America250 Tree, a living symbol of growth, strength, and the enduring spirit of our nation. We also joined Rose School in kicking off their America250 celebration, helping inspire the next generation to appreciate the freedoms and opportunities we enjoy today.

In addition, Village representatives has regularly participated in the Illinois America250 meetings and collaborative discussions with communities across the state. These conversations provide an opportunity to learn how other municipalities are commemorating this historic milestone, share ideas and best practices, and ensure South Barrington remains actively engaged in honoring our nation’s semi quincentennial in meaningful and memorable ways.
As you celebrate this Fourth of July, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the freedoms we cherish, the responsibilities we share, and the legacy we will leave for future generations and make it fun. This is a milestone 250 years in the making. Let’s celebrate together!
OPUS Plan Commission Public Hearing
Last night the Plan Commission unanimously voted to recommend to the Board approval of the Opus project on the Allstate property. The OPUS Development team has been working on plans to redevelop the former Allstate site, located at the southeast corner of Higgins and Bartlett Roads and commonly known as the Northwest 90 Corporate Park. The property is currently located in unincorporated Cook County and had previously de-annexed from South Barrington. Opus is now seeking annexation into the Village. The recommendation will be voted on at our next Village Board Meeting on Thursday July 9, at 7 pm.
2025 WATER QUALITY REPORT
Those residents being served by the Village water system should be receiving the Village’s 2025 Water Quality Report, which was mailed out on Monday.
The report is also now available online for residents to view.
Each year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires public water systems to provide a report detailing the quality of the community’s drinking water. The Village routinely tests its water for a wide range of contaminants, and we are pleased to report that our water continues to meet or exceed all State and Federal drinking water standards.
The report provides important information about your drinking water, including testing results, water sources, and details about the Village’s ongoing commitment to delivering safe, high-quality water to our residents.
Residents may view the report online by visiting the Village website and selecting the 2025 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report HERE.

As always, I am here to listen to your thoughts and concerns. Feel free to email me at pmccombie@southbarrington.org, or use the anonymous comment boxes located in the lobbies of Village Hall and the Police Department. I review these messages privately and value your input.
Have an enjoyable weekend!

Paula McCombie
Mayor
