Dear Residents,
We are about to begin the work on storm sewer and drainage repairs as part of the subdivision stormwater subsidy program. Last year, each subdivision received a binder of recommended infrastructure repairs identified by our former Building Officer, Michael Moreland. Your subdivision board may have submitted an application to the Village requesting projects that they would like to see completed this year. If projects have not yet been submitted, there is still a chance to get them on the list by calling the Village or by sending an email to administrator Bob Palmer at rpalmer@southbarrington.org by Monday morning.
The Village has received a few inquiries regarding the upcoming primary election. Early voting is available at the Barrington Hills and Hoffman Estates Village Halls through March 18. March 19 is the last day to vote in the primaries. For more information and to view your voter registration, visit the Cook County Clerk’s Website.
Leather Creations has relocated to Suite Q-65 (near Soma and Rally House) in the Arboretum, in anticipation of the new piano bar, Higgy’s, opening in Suite H-22. Visit them in their new space for quality custom-crafted leather furniture made in the USA.
This past Tuesday, Village Administrator Robert Palmer attended the ribbon cutting for Grant & Dunne Styling Bar. Located in the Arboretum of South Barrington (near Soft Surroundings), Grant & Dunne brings a premium service salon to the community. Please stop by and welcome them to the Village!
The last day to apply for the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce’s Scholarships is next Friday, March 15. This scholarship is open to local high school students pursuing a higher education. Additional information and the application can be found here.
Every year I recommend residents check the Illinois Unclaimed Property website for money owed to them. Enter your information on the Illinois Treasurer website to search, and if you find your name and corresponding address, click “claim” and follow the instructions to claim your property. It is an easy way to find a few extra dollars for your pocket.
This Saturday, don’t forget to set your clocks ahead one hour before going to bed for Daylight Saving Time. The time change serves as a reminder to test all smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in your home. If you find an alarm that is not working or is expired, the State Fire Marshal recommends replacing alarms with new 10-year sealed battery alarms.
As always, I can be reached by email at pmccombie@southbarrington.org or online through our website here. I can also be reached through the anonymous comment boxes located in the Village Hall and Police Department lobbies. I read anonymous messages privately, so please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss any matter.
Enjoy your weekend!
Paula McCombie
Mayor
