Dear Residents,
The 2024 Road Maintenance Program has gone out for bid. The project consists of resurfacing approximately 1.3 miles of local roadways at various locations throughout the Village. The bid period is open until Thursday, April 11 and the bids will be opened shortly after 10:00 am that day.
If you are renting or are offering rental of your South Barrington home or guest space, you are required to have a valid South Barrington Rental License. Licenses are valid for one year and expire March 31; rentals must be for a minimum of 4 months. Rental License Applications are available on our website here. Submit the required application, supporting documents, and fee to the Village before May 1 to avoid penalties. For a copy of the Village Code related to the Licensing of Single Family Rental Properties, click here. If you have questions, please contact Ashley Hrynko at 847-381-7510.
If your property has an irrigation and/or sprinkler system, and you are on Village water (homes in the Woods of South Barrington and Village Enclave) you will receive notice of the required RPZ (Reduced Pressure Zone) device testing with your April water bill. The IEPA requires RPZ backflow prevention devices designed to stop contamination from getting into the water supply. Devices must be tested at least annually. Only licensed plumbers with a Cross Connection Certification License can test and certify the proper operation of an RPZ valve. Once the valve is tested, the certification paperwork must be sent to the Village to record compliance. Residents on private wells that have irrigation or sprinkler systems are also required to have RPZ devices and perform annual testing of devices, although the certification does not need to be sent to the Village.
Yard waste collection begins this Monday, April 1. You can buy yard waste stickers at Village Hall or Jewel (485 Palatine Road, Hoffman Estates, or 150 Main Street, Barrington) for $3.25 each. A sticker must be affixed to each 30-gallon biodegradable landscape bag left at the curb for collection.
Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi is hosting a Zoom Climate Town Hall on Monday, April 15 at 12:15 pm. Special Guest Host Tom Skilling will join us to discuss climate change, its effect on severe weather patterns in Chicagoland and nationwide, and the path forward for concerned citizens. There will be a Q&A period at the end of the meeting. You can RSVP here.
Due to an overwhelming response, the Village no longer has eclipse glasses available for residents to pick up. However, Harper College is hosting an eclipse viewing party, weather permitting, and they are offering free glasses and parking for the event. For more information please read below in my message.
