Dear Residents,
The following is a CODE RED message, sent Tuesday evening, from South Barrington Police Chief Tom Roman.
“This is an important crime prevention message from South Barrington Police Chief Roman. At about 8:10 a.m., a South Barrington resident living near Witt Road in the Sunset Ridge Farm neighborhood called 9-1-1 to report her car missing. Officers learned that the resident parked her unlocked Volkswagen SUV on the street last night and left the keys inside. The Officers were made aware of a suspicious car parked near the resident’s house about 5:30 a.m. That car and the stolen SUV drove away shortly after, our investigation is ongoing.
It is very important that you take action to protect yourself from these situations. Lock your cars, keep the keys and fobs secure and remove valuables from your car at night. If you see something suspicious, please call 9-1-1 right away”. If you would like to receive Village and Police Emergency Notifications, please register by clicking here.

Last week I attended the Illinois Municipal League Lobby Day in Springfield. The Village is a longtime member of IML. Among our State leaders, we had an opportunity to hear Governor Pritzker’s ideas on state budget items. We also heard the thoughts of House Speaker Emanuel Chris Welch, House Republican Leader Tony McCombie, Senate President Don Harmon, and Senate Republican Leader John Curran among others. We had the opportunity to introduce ourselves, share information about our municipality, and discuss specific items and actions that we would like our legislators to work towards. Some of the things I discussed included the return of our original % of Local Government Distributive Funds which is our local share of State Income Tax Revenue, Grocery Tax Revenue, the Public Safety Pension Reform, Crime Free Housing, and the Mandates that are coming from the State. You can learn more about which of our local legislators represent South Barrington by utilizing the State Board of Elections “Find My Elected Officials” search tool here.
Our 2024 Road Program contractor was determined this week. In a highly unusual circumstance, the lowest two bids were exactly the same. Per the rules in the Bureau of Local Roads and Streets Manual, we invited the two lowest bidders to come back to the Village Hall and roll dice simultaneously, with the higher roller’s bid to be presented to the Board for approval at the next meeting. Builders Asphalt rolled a 3 and ALAMP Road Builders rolled a 6, respectively. This year’s program will include the resurfacing of Beacon Hill Drive, Beechnut Drive, Windsor Court, and Willow Bay Drive.
If you are renting or are offering the rental of any part of your South Barrington home you are required to have a valid South Barrington Rental License. Licenses are valid for one year and expire March 31; rentals must be for a minimum of 4 months. Rental License Applications are available on our website here. Submit the required application, supporting documents, and fee to the Village before May 1 to avoid penalties. For a copy of the Village Code related to the Licensing of Single Family Rental Properties, click here. If you have questions, please contact Ashley Hrynko at 847-381-7510.
I would like to remind residents that hydrant flushing is planned for the week of April 26-May 3 for the municipal water service area. The municipal water service area includes The Arboretum, Regency, Woods, Village Enclave, and Revere Court. Hydrant flushing is a semi-annual process to check hydrant operation and flush the water lines. Look for neighborhood signs or check the Village website for updates.
The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) provides free native tree saplings through its “Restore the Canopy, Plant a Tree” program. Native trees can help reduce flooding by soaking up rainwater. Trees also produce oxygen, keep neighborhoods cooler, provide habitat for wildlife, lower energy bills, and store carbon dioxide to help combat climate change. If you are interested in learning more about this program click MWRD. Free trees are available every Wednesday from April to October from 9 a.m. to noon at the Hanover Park Water Reclamation Plant.
