Dear Residents,
Earlier this week AC Power, a solar development company based in New York City, submitted their project application for an amendment to a Special Use Permit associated with the decommissioned landfill on Mundhank Road. The project entails the installing of a ground-mounted solar photovoltaic system that will connect to the electric grid. At last night’s Board Meeting, this request was acted upon by the Village Board, and was referred to the Plan Commission for a Public Hearing. The Plan Commission meeting is scheduled for May 8th at 7 pm. Notification of the Public Hearing will be published in the Daily Herald as required under the Village Code, in addition to certified mailings to properties within 250’ of the landfill site. According to the Cook County Assessor, the entire site is approximately 80 acres and AC Power would utilize 33.3 acres to install the solar field. The plans submitted by AC Power will be available for public review at the Village Hall following formal notification. For more information about AC Power, visit their website at https://www.acpowerllc.com/. I will continue to provide updates on this project as they are available.
The Village’s preliminary budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year was presented to the Board at last night’s meeting and is on file at the Village Hall for review. The final approval for the fiscal year 2024-2025 budget will be on the agenda for the May 9 Board Meeting.
Arbor Day is celebrating its 152nd year on Friday, April 26. At the April 11 Board meeting, we honored Arbor Day with a Proclamation. Every year we hold an Arbor Day ceremony in the fall and plant a tree in the Conservancy. Adopting a proclamation and planting a tree is part of the requirements set by the Arbor Day Foundation to be a Tree City USA. When we have a date for the tree planting, it will be published in this newsletter and on our website.
Many homeowners begin renovation projects in spring, such as kitchen and bathroom remodeling, electric car chargers, patios, pergolas, driveways, and roof re-shingling. The above are just a few examples of projects that require a Village building permit. Village Permit Applications are available on our website here; guidelines about specific projects are also on the website under Construction Guidelines. Please also note that a Dumpster permit is required when renting a Dumpster, outside of a building permit project. To make sure your project’s construction follows the Village Code or if you have questions regarding the permit process, please call the Building Department 847-381-7513 or visit the Village website.
Earlier this week, Cuba Township completed the Spring brush and branch pick-up. The chip truck generated approximately 3 loads of woodchips that will be spread on the walking paths in the Conservancy. Thank you Cuba Township for a job well done!
As a reminder, for most taxpayers, the filing deadline to submit your 2023 Federal Income Tax returns is this Monday, April 15. Taxpayers requesting an extension will have until Tuesday, October 15, 2024, to file.
