Mayor’s Message August 21, 2026

Dear Residents,

It is that time of year again when we will all be receiving the 2nd installment of our 2025 property tax bills.

I know property taxes are an important concern for many of our residents, and I encourage homeowners to take a few minutes to review their bill carefully.

The Second Installment reflects the remaining portion of your 2025 property tax bill, including any applicable exemptions. Your bill also provides a detailed breakdown of the taxing districts that receive a portion of your property taxes, giving you a better understanding of where your tax dollars go. For a quick and convenient overview, we’ve included a simple graph below illustrating how property tax dollars are distributed among the various taxing bodies.  Note that the Village of South Barrington asks for only 5.93% of your total tax bill to provide the services you receive.

Residents can visit the Cook County Treasurer’s Office for helpful information about their property tax bill, payment options, exemptions and refunds. You can also view your bill online, review your property tax history and access other resources using your property address or 14-digit Property Index Number (PIN). Hard copies of your property tax bills will be mailed to you within the next 2 weeks.

We strive to keep your bills low and will happily answer any questions you might have about the Village’s portion.

SUPPORTING STUDENT WELLNESS

This week, I had the pleasure of joining the Barrington Youth & Family Services, the Barrington Area Community Foundation of which I am a board member, and Barrington High School at their recent ribbon cutting to celebrate new enhancements to student spaces.

These thoughtful additions, including comfortable furniture, a moss mural, acoustic panels, and local photography, help create welcoming spaces that support student well-being, morale, and a positive school environment.

It was wonderful to see our community come together and support the important work these great organizations do for our community. A special thank you to BACF and BYFS for helping make this possible!

WELCOME: OFFICER MASCIOPINTO

We have a new addition to our police department. This week, I welcomed Officer Richard Masciopinto, our newest member of the South Barrington Police Department, at a swearing in ceremony.

A former U.S. Marine, Officer Masciopinto brings a strong foundation of discipline, teamwork, leadership, and commitment to service as he begins his career in law enforcement. He joined our team this week and is headed straight to the academy for his training.

While you won’t see him out in the community just yet, we are excited to welcome him to South Barrington and look forward to all he will accomplish. Thank Officer Masciopinto for stepping up to serve our community!

Welcome to the team, Officer Masciopinto!

WORKING TOGETHER TO IMPROVE RECYCLING

Recycling has always been an important part of South Barrington’s commitment to protecting our environment and being responsible stewards of our community, both today and for future generations.

As a SWANCC partner, we are excited to participate in a new recycling education and testing program running September 14 through October 5. During this time, we will work alongside SWANCC representatives to help educate our community about proper recycling practices and the important role each of us plays in keeping recyclable materials out of the wrong waste streams.

This program will provide valuable tools and data to help us better understand our recycling habits and identify ways we can all improve. How we recycle affects everyone, including the efficiency and cost of the recycling services provided to our community. Improperly disposed items can cause contamination, equipment breakdowns and damage to recycling machinery, which can ultimately lead to increased costs.

Our goal is simple: reduce improper recycling, improve the quality of what we place in our recycling bins and work together to make a positive environmental impact.

Stay tuned for more information about this program and how you can participate. Together, we can continue building a cleaner, more sustainable South Barrington for generations to come!

SAVE THE DATE: 2ND ANNUAL PUMPKIN SMASH

Last year, we held our first Pumpkin Smash and by popular demand…it is back!

Join us on Nov. 7th at the South Barrington Conservancy from 9:30am-12pm for a fun morning of pumpkin smashing!

The Pumpkin Smash started with a simple idea and a great partnership with SCARCE, an organization dedicated to environmental education and sustainability. What began as a way to keep pumpkins out of the landfill has grown into a fun, family-friendly community event that gives pumpkins a second life through composting.

If you joined us last year, you know what a fun morning it was! If you missed it, this is your year to join us for a family-friendly event that kids and adults alike will enjoy.

As you collect your pumpkins this fall, remember to save them for smashing!

As always, I am here to listen to your thoughts and concerns. Feel free to email me at pmccombie@southbarrington.org, or use the anonymous comment boxes located in the lobbies of Village Hall and the Police Department. I review these messages privately and value your input.

Have an enjoyable weekend!

Paula McCombie, Mayor
