Dear Residents,
This week marked the 24th anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center. While it is always difficult to recount the events of September 11th, 2001 – it is important to remember the men and women who lost their lives on that fateful day. Many of the people who died on 9/11 died trying to save other people. It is a sad day, but it is also a day to remember the heroes who gave their lives in service to others.
New Police Pension Fund Appointed
Long time Trustee Stephen Guranovich has been appointed to the Police Pension Fund, effective September 11, 2025. This committee includes one retired officer, two active officers, and two Village Trustees. Trustee Guranovich joins Trustee Abbate, and we’re grateful for their continued commitment to serving our community!
BACOG Annual Private Water Testing Event – Updated Information
Since our last message we’ve learned that Lake County has raised the price of testing kits to $25. But there is good news. Our residents will still get a discount, and your cost will be $20.
For those residents on private wells, BACOG’s Annual Private Well Water Testing kits will be available for purchase at Village Hall starting Monday, September 15th. Private well owners are encouraged to test their wells for bacteria and nitrates annually. Residents on the Village’s municipal well water are not eligible to participate in this program as their water is tested on a regular basis. Water test kits can be purchased for $20 at Village Hall during regular business hours through Tuesday, September 30th. We can accept cash, Zelle or checks made out to BACOG.
Residents may drop off their collected water samples on October 1st at the Barrington Area Library anytime between 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. For more information, please check out our website or Facebook page by clicking here.
Happy Ending – Mom and Puppies Have Been Reunited!
You may have seen our posts about the puppies that were abandoned in a Wood Oaks parking lot over the weekend and their missing Mom but we’re happy to share that Mom has been found and reunited with her little ones!
A huge thank you to our officers, Lost Dogs Illinois, and every resident who kept an eye out and shared our updates, your support helped make this reunion possible.
While Mom was just brought in yesterday and still a little scared, they are all safe and being held at Golf Rose Animal Hospital for the next couple of days and soon they’ll all be ready for their forever homes!
If you’re interested in adopting, please reach out to Tracey with the Northwest Rescue Network Team. All adoptions will be coordinated through them.

Let’s work together to give these sweet pups and Mom the loving homes they deserve!

Storm Brush Removal Complete
Cuba Township has completed the storm brush and branch pick-up, and I want to extend my thanks and appreciation for your cooperation. It allowed crews to move efficiently through the area and complete the work in a timely manner. Thank you again for making this process a smooth one.
Shred Event Wrap-Up: Another Great Community Event
The shred hosted we hosted on September 6th brought out a total of 174 cars, of which 104 were South Barrington residents and was a tremendous success.
The turnout for this Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC)-sponsored event exceeded expectations.
Together, we shredded and recycled an incredible 7,500 lbs. of paper! While shredded paper can’t go in curbside recycling (it’s too tricky to sort), events like this make it possible for it to be properly baled and then sold to a paper recycler.
Thank you to everyone who came out and took advantage of this important service to our community.

Chemical Waste Pick-up Requests
We’ve received several requests from residents asking if the Village Hall could serve as a drop-off site for household hazardous waste; however, SWANCC does not currently permit us to do so.
We did, however, survey HOA Board Members to see if HOAs would take advantage of a household program offered by SWANCC that required coordination and collection within the HOA. At this time, the majority of feedback has been no. The good news is that there are several safe drop-off sites available for disposing of these items, please visit the SWANCC website below for further details.

As always, I am here to listen to your thoughts and concerns. Feel free to email me at pmccombie@southbarrington.org, or use the anonymous comment boxes located in the lobbies of Village Hall and the Police Department. I review these messages privately and value your input.
Have an enjoyable weekend!
