Dear Residents,
This Saturday is Halloween and our streets are about to become the hunting ground for goblins, ghosts and superheroes on the hunt for candy.
Trick-or-treating hours in South Barrington are 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Saturday. Keep an eye out for little trick-or-treaters, use extra caution while driving, and make sure everyone has a fun and safe Halloween!
The end of Halloween marks the beginning of a magical time, and I am sure many of you will be swapping pumpkins for Christmas trees and kicking off the holiday decorating season! This is indeed a wonderful time of year.
And don’t forget, we FALL BACK this weekend! Enjoy that extra hour of sleep, spend a little more time with family, or put that bonus hour to good use getting a head start on your holiday decorating.
COUNTDOWN TO THE BIG SMASH
Who knew pumpkin demolition was part of the job description for South Barrington employees?
South Barrington’s Building Officer, Damian has stepped up and brought out his one-of-a-kind, handcrafted pumpkin-smashing mallets which are back and ready for action at the Village’s 2nd Annual Pumpkin Smash! Join us for a morning of family fun while giving your pumpkins an eco-friendly sendoff.
Not interested in swinging a mallet? No problem! A dumpster will be available for easy pumpkin drop-off, ensuring your pumpkins stay out of the landfill.

The event will be on Saturday, November 7 | 9:30 AM–12:00 PM at the South Barrington Conservancy
Registration is easy. Simply email Makayla at mterfehn@southbarrington.org with your name and number of guests.
NOVEMBER IS THE LAST CALL FOR YARD WASTE PICKUPS
For those wishing to do one more clean up in their yard, please remember November is the last month for yard waste collection.
The final yard waste pickup of the season will take place on Monday, November 30th. Be sure to take advantage of this last collection opportunity before yard waste service resumes in the spring.
Need yard waste stickers? You can purchase them at Village Hall during regular business hours for $3.25 per sticker.

START HALLOWEEN AT GOEBEBRTS
Start off the Halloween weekend festivities the right way with a visit to Goebbert’s Farm. Goebbert’s is hosting a special Trick-or-Treat at the Farm event on Saturday, October 31st!
Your little ghosts, goblins, and superheroes are encouraged to come dressed in their Halloween best and explore the farm while visiting eight special trick-or-treat stops to collect treats along the way. Even better, children who arrive in costume will receive 50% off admission! This special discount is available in person only and applies to children in costume.
Trick-or-treating is included with paid admission, and treats are available while supplies last. It’s the perfect way to enjoy some Halloween fun at the farm before heading out for an evening of trick-or-treating!

SOUTH BARRINGTON HONORS OUR VETERANS
Here in the Village of South Barrington, we value the service of our veterans, which is why we have set up a database of veterans living in our community.
With Veterans Day coming up, we are encouraging those residents who are veterans and who have not yet registered to please take a moment and fill out our online form. Our goal is to build a stronger veteran community and create opportunities to recognize those who have served, honor their contributions, and express our gratitude for their service and sacrifice. Residents who wish to be publicly recognized will have the opportunity to do so, while those who prefer not to be recognized will simply be included in our database for future community outreach.
If you are a veteran, we encourage you to register and help us ensure our community’s veterans are never forgotten. Thank you for your service and for being a valued part of South Barrington.

As always, I am here to listen to your thoughts and concerns. Feel free to email me at pmccombie@southbarrington.org, or use the anonymous comment boxes located in the lobbies of Village Hall and the Police Department. I review these messages privately and value your input.
Have an enjoyable weekend!
Paula McCombie, Mayor
