Dear Residents,
June 14th is Flag Day in the United States.
President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed June 14th as National Flag Day in 1916. Americans have celebrated the adoption of the Stars and Stripes through various means, such as displaying the flag at their homes, participating in parades, and holding patriotic observances. Before 1916, many local communities and a few states had already been recognizing this day for years. In 1949, Congressional legislation officially designated June 14th as National Flag Day, which was signed into law by President Harry Truman, who was also called upon to issue a Flag Day proclamation annually.
To date, there have been twenty-seven official versions of the flag, with the arrangement of stars varying based on the preferences of flag-makers until 1912, when President Taft standardized the forty-eight stars into six rows of eight. The forty-nine-star flag (used from 1959 to 1960) and the fifty-star flag both feature standardized star patterns. The current version of the flag was established on July 4th, 1960, following Hawaii’s admission as the fiftieth state on August 21st, 1959.
Happy Flag Day!

South Barrington Garden Club
Once again, the South Barrington Garden Club designed and donated a beautiful arrangement for the Spring/Summer season in the two urns in front of Village Hall (pictured below). The South Barrington Garden Club is dedicated to educating the community on horticulture while enhancing the beauty of the Village. If you are interested in the Garden Club, you can visit their website at www.sbgclub.org.
RPZ Device Testing Reminder
As a reminder, all RPZ devices are required to be tested annually.
Residents of the Woods of South Barrington and Village Enclave are on the Villages water system for their drinking water. RPZ devices are required for everyone on our system with sprinkler systems, as well as those with fire suppression systems to prevent potable water contamination. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) also mandates these devices to be tested annually.
If your RPZ has not been tested or has failed testing, DO NOT use your irrigation system until a passing report has been received by the Village.
Note for Private Well Users: RPZ devices are also required on vulnerable connections such as irrigation systems and must be tested annually. However, certification paperwork is not required to be submitted to the Village for private wells.
Annual Private Well Water Testing
The annual private well water testing event is set for Oct. 1, 2025.
If you are on the South Barrington water system, these wells are tested regularly and the private well testing does not pertain to you. Households with private wells are advised to test for bacteria and nitrates on an annual basis to detect these invisible, odorless contaminants. BACOG will once again be partnering with the Lake County Health Department and Barrington Area Library to bring this convenient, low-cost opportunity to our community. Please mark your calendars and help spread the word!
Water Testing Is Essential: Additional testing to identify other contaminants in the natural well water (like manganese, iron, and lead) is recommended every 5 years or with a transfer of real estate.
Additional testing
BACOG is now partnering with My Tap Score and SimpleLab to bring expanded testing options to our region’s residential private well owners. If you are concerned about possible contaminants such as lead, arsenic, or PFAS, additional testing is now available. Simply log onto the BACOG website: https://bacog.org/groundwater-resources/water-information/ and get all of the information you need to get additional water testing.
