Dear Residents,
Balancing Professional and Personal Life: A Thoughtful Reflection
Balancing the demands of a professional work environment with the responsibilities and challenges of home life can be incredibly stressful – particularly in high-stress professions such as law enforcement.
The Village of South Barrington is committed to supporting our employees and Board members with the resources and tools they need to thrive in all aspects of life.

We were honored to welcome Prayagraj Hule, a respected voice in Vedanta philosophy, who shared valuable insights on navigating life’s choices and the impact of those decisions have on the personal and professional lives of village employees. He addressed the effects one’s career have on family dynamics, the importance of finding balance, and the heavy responsibilities placed on law enforcement professionals – especially in those moments that require split-second decisions.
Hule also tackled the often-overlooked emotional toll of trauma and how deeply a job can permeate one’s identity and even extend into life after retirement. His perspective and thoughtful tools for self-awareness and balance were both illuminating and encouraging.
I extend my sincere thanks to Prayagraj Hule, Dr. Kumar, and all who attended and participated in this educational event.

Flint & Spring Creek Watershed Partnerships
Summer is here, and it’s the perfect time to consider how small, everyday choices can make a big difference for our watersheds.
The Flint & Spring Creek Watershed Partnerships would like to remind you that simple actions such as reducing lawn chemicals and choosing natural yard care can help protect the health of our local creeks and streams.
When it rains or snows, some of the water seeps into the ground, embarking on a journey that eventually leads it to aquifers – the primary source of our drinking water. On the other hand, water that falls on pavement or other hard surfaces takes a different route, immediately flowing into a storm sewer or ditch and then into creeks, streams, and ponds. To find out more about watersheds and the impact they have on our community visit Flint & Spring Creek Watersheds Partnerships.
Cook County Forest Preserve
Looking forward to spending quality time outdoors this summer?
Then check out the Cook County Forest Preserve website for Things to Do. Cook County is home to more than 70,000 acres of various forests and wildlife preservation areas. Forest preserve visitors can enjoy many activities such as disc golf, zip lining, kayaking, camping, fishing, swimming and more.
Outdoors Day: Fishing Derby
There is still time to register for Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison’s Fishing Derby being held this Saturday, June 14th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Busse Lake in the Busse Woods Forest Preserve. For more information on this event, see below, in my message.
Juneteenth – National Freedom Day
Next Thursday, June 19th, we observe Juneteenth, a federal holiday that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States.
It is a powerful day of reflection and celebration, honoring the history, achievements, contributions, and resilience of African Americans, and it is a time to come together in remembrance, unity, and hope for continued progress toward justice and equality.
