Mayor’s Message June 12, 2026

Dear Residents,

Economic development is something we all understand is important but here in South Barrington we also understand the need for development opportunities to be carefully evaluated to ensure future projects align with the best interest of our residents.

With this perspective in mind, OPUS remains interested in re-annexing the former Allstate property into South Barrington rather than in Hoffman Estates, which had been the original destination of the project for months. At Thursday’s Village Board meeting, representatives from OPUS provided a brief update on the project and outlined progress made since the consideration in making South Barrington their home. The proposed redevelopment currently includes a light-industrial warehouse complex, though project details continue to evolve through the planning process.

Re-annexing this property into South Barrington rather than Hoffman Estates means our community will have a direct role in guiding its future and we will have a seat at the table. Being a part of the negotiations means we can ensure the project delivers meaningful benefits to South Barrington. The development has the potential to generate valuable property tax revenue on the property, lessen the financial burden on residents, and support important infrastructure improvements, including water and sanitary sewer needs in the area.

Residents interested in learning more about the proposal are encouraged to attend the upcoming Plan Commission meeting on June 24 at 7:00 p.m., where OPUS will provide a comprehensive presentation detailing the current plans, project scope, and overall status of the development.

I will continue to keep residents informed as this proposal moves through the review process and additional information becomes available.

 PLUM FARMS M2 ZONING

The Plum Farms property zoning on rt 59 and 72 across from the Woods of South Barrington is not presently on the schedule for the Village Board meeting in Hoffman Estates on Monday, but while Mayor McCleod and the Hoffman Estates Trustees decide whether or not to take the Plan Commissions recommendation against the change of zoning allowing a data center, I encourage you to attend their next meeting on Monday the 15th. This gives their leaders time to consider residents voices while contemplating the way they will vote.

HELP YOUR NEW TREE THRIVE

Despite recent storms, we will soon see hot, dry conditions this summer and it is important for those residents who received a new tree through the Village’s replacement program to be consistent in watering the new trees. Constant watering is essential for the tree’s health and survival. While the recent rainfall was certainly beneficial, newly planted trees require regular watering throughout their first year as they establish their root systems.

Give the trees a deep watering several times per week, especially during hot or dry periods. A little extra attention now can make all the difference in helping your new tree become a healthy, long-lasting addition to our community.

GOEBBERTS MAKERS MARKET: JUNE 27-28

Our community is home to some creative and innovative people, and nothing illustrates this better than the Makers Market at Goebbert’s Farm.

More than just a craft fair, the Makers Market is a celebration of local talent and community connections. Visitors can browse a wide variety of unique, handcrafted items, including jewelry, home décor, handmade soaps, gourmet treats, and much more, all created by talented makers from our region.

Whether you’re searching for a special gift, looking to support a local business, or simply enjoy exploring unique products, the Makers Market offers something for everyone. Admission is free, and the market will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

This is a chance to shop local and help support the small businesses and artisans that contribute so much to the character and vibrancy of our community.

WORLD CUP ON THE BIG SCREEN AT AMC-SOUTH BARRINGTON

Calling all soccer fans!

Select AMC theatres, South Barrington included, will be showing several World Cup matches, in Spanish, on the big screen throughout the tournament, beginning this weekend.

Fans can enjoy cinematic audio and live coverage from the pitch, creating an immersive viewing experience that brings the excitement of the tournament to life. While the broadcasts will be in Spanish, there’s nothing quite like watching one of the world’s biggest sporting events on a theater-sized screen.
For match schedules and ticket information, visit the AMC website by clicking HERE

As always, I am here to listen to your thoughts and concerns. Feel free to email me at pmccombie@southbarrington.org, or use the anonymous comment boxes located in the lobbies of Village Hall and the Police Department. I review these messages privately and value your input.

Have an enjoyable weekend!
