Dear Residents,
The leaves are changing, kids are returning to school and the weather is cooling down which means Fall is fast approaching.
There are many great Fall activities in South Barrington, and it all kicks off this weekend with the annual Goebbert’s Fall Festival, running from September 7th through October 31st. Open daily from 9 AM to 6 PM, Goebbert’s is a fantastic destination for families. There will be plenty of pumpkins, animals, fun attractions, and, of course, the delightful Red Barn Café & Bakery.

Shred event
Our annual Document Destruction Shredding Event is this Saturday, September 7th, from 9 AM to Noon. The drive-thru event will take place in the far west parking lot behind Village Hall at 30 South Barrington Road. This is a convenient way to securely shred your documents. Please remember that materials from non-residents, businesses, schools, or institutions will not be accepted, and IDs will be checked for residency verification. For more details, visit Swancc’s website.
We need your input!
In recent editions of the newsletter, I have highlighted the South Barrington Conservancy Master Plan.
The Conservancy is a unique property, and we are looking at ways to make this property even better for the residents of South Barrington. We would love to hear from you on some of the possible improvements we can make. Please mark your calendar for October 10th at 7pm at Village Hall and join us for the South Barrington Conservancy Master Plan concept discussion and offer your input. We need your voice!
This meeting is a unique opportunity for you to engage in shaping the Conservancy’s future. During the session, you will have the chance to:
· View Amenity Options: Explore various amenities being considered for the Conservancy.
· Discuss Master Plan Concepts: Contribute your thoughts and feedback on different master plan concepts.
· Select Your Favorite Plan: Help us choose the plan that best meets our community’s needs and vision.
Upland Design Ltd., our Village’s Landscape Architect Consultant will be present to guide the discussion and provide expert insights.
Your input is invaluable as we work together to enhance and preserve the natural beauty of the South Barrington Conservancy. We look forward to seeing you there and hearing your ideas.
Anyone who has watched news reports about criminal acts may notice there are often multiple police departments on the scene participating in the investigation of a crime scene. These multijurisdictional efforts are not uncommon. In fact, South Barrington Police Department is part of the Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT). MCAT is a multi-jurisdictional team consisting of 24 agencies that assist in homicide and other significant investigations. MCAT contains units in investigations, accident reconstruction, forensic investigation, officer involved death investigations, and a surveillance team.
MCAT is made up of highly skilled investigators who bring a broad knowledge and expertise base to the team. Major investigations can be lengthy and deplete an agency’s resources rather quickly. MCAT provides the support as well as additional resources and personnel to sustain these lengthy investigations. We currently have four (4) officers participating in MCAT units, two in investigations, one in accident reconstruction, and one in officer involved death investigation.
These multi-jurisdictional teams have been proven to be a reliable way to make our communities safer and that certainly has been the case here in South Barrington. We will continue to work with regional police jurisdictions to ensure the safety of our residents.
As always, I can be reached by email at pmccombie@southbarrington.org or online through our website. I can also be reached through the anonymous comment boxes located in the Village Hall and Police Department lobbies. I read anonymous messages privately, so please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss any matter.
Have a great weekend!
