Dear Residents,
I want to first begin by thanking everyone who attended our Town Hall.
It was a well-attended and extremely productive meeting. The Village is committed to the safety of our residents, and it was great to have a candid and informative conversation with so many from our community.
Based on the meeting last night, I will soon be calling a meeting for the HOA boards to meet, weigh in on options for our Flock cameras and ask them to bring the information back to the residents within their subdivision. If you have elected any new members for your HOA board this year, please contact Stacey at the Village so that we can update our list.

Plan Commission on Monday 9/23
The Plan Commission meeting on Monday will address area N, Forestview Estates, which still requires engineering review and Driveway sizes n the Woods of South Barrington.
As of now, the Solar project petitioners have asked to move the vote for their project to next month to give them more time to put together additional studies. We are committed to making this process a fair and transparent one. I will continue to keep you informed on the latest developments with this project.

Village Brush Pickup
Fall officially begins on Sunday.
The onset of fall means tree waste, but the Village has you covered. There will be a village-wide special brush pick-up beginning on Tuesday, October 22.
You will not need to place a yard waste sticker on your brush bundles to participate in this special pick-up. Cuba Township will collect brush starting at the north end of the village. We anticipate the collection of all brush to be completed by the end of the week.
Brush piles must be limited to 4 ft. high by 4 ft. wide and no longer than 10 ft. For Cuba Township workers to move as quickly as possible throughout the Village, please put your branches and limbs in a pile no taller than 4’ high, 4’ deep and a row that can stretch 10’ in length. Place the cut ends of the branches either facing or parallel to the street in the direction of traffic so they can be loaded in the chipper quickly. Finally, please place your brush bundles at the curb no later than 6:00 am on Tuesday, October 22.
Tree Survey
We have been compiling a list of dead Village parkway trees for removal and this is the last week to report any street-side dead trees.
Simply follow the link to fill out our Tree Survey. The dead tree list will be used for our tree removal and tree replacement program. Reported trees will be evaluated, and if eligible, added to the master removal list. Once the yearly program is completed, individual parkway trees will not be replaced until next year.
While we are committed to clearing out dead trees and replacing them, we also are committed to keeping local trees alive and one of the best ways to do this is to water them.
According to U of I Climatology, “The U.S. Drought Monitor greatly expanded drought and abnormally dry conditions across Illinois in their September 10th update. Roughly 77% of the state is abnormally dry, 20% of the state is now in at least moderate drought.”
It is important to water all trees young and old to ensure that they continue to thrive. Not only does watering trees help keep them alive, but it also reduces fire risks as well.
Below are recommendations on tree watering:
- Young trees should be watered with 5-15 gallons of water weekly from April-October. It is important to not overwater a tree, as a rule, do not form a puddle at the base this can cause other problems and cause the tree to die.
- Mature trees can survive with a monthly watering from April-October. But make sure you are watering deeply, soaking to a depth of 8-12 inches.
- For mature trees, water away from the base of the tree so the smaller roots can absorb the water and grow. If you water at the base of the tree only the established roots will absorb the water.
- Be sure to water the trees irrigation does not reach.
As always, I’m here to listen to your thoughts and concerns. Feel free to email me at pmccombie@southbarrington.org, or use the anonymous comment boxes located in the lobbies of Village Hall and the Police Department. I review these messages privately and value your input.
Enjoy the weekend and the start of a wonderful fall season!
Warm regards,
Paula McCombie
Mayor
