Dear Residents,
Being a police officer is a difficult and often thankless job which is why we make recognizing those officers who go above and beyond a priority.
The Village of South Barrington has awarded our Detective Mickey Walsh with an Exceptional Duty Award. The award recognizes his heroic response to an incident in which he exemplified the highest values of honor, integrity, and respect. His actions not only prevented further harm but also exemplified values of selflessness, integrity, and dedication to public safety the South Barrington Police Department strives to uphold.
Thank you, Detective Mickey Walsh, for your tremendous service to our community.
Pictured below Detective Mickey Walsh was presented the Exceptional Duty Award by Mayor McCombie.
New Cameras
The Village Board has approved the purchase of an additional eight (8) FLOCK Cameras for the Village of South Barrington.
These cameras will be placed on County Roads. Flock cameras read license plates and send instant alerts to law enforcement officers on patrol when the cameras identify license plates or vehicles that match those of interest to the police. Adding these cameras will enhance the safety of our community and are important tools for law enforcement.
Town Hall
Please remember there will be a Town Hall meeting next Wednesday, November 20th at 7:15pm at Village Hall. Two of our consultants, John Houseal of Houseal Lavigne, who wrote our Comprehensive Plan, as well as Tom Burney of Burney Law, our zoning attorney who works with the Village on several issues, will both be in attendance. We will be discussing the Comprehensive Plan as well as zoning issues.
Please RSVP at mayor@southbarrington.org for this meeting to help us make sure we have the right number of seats for all who will be attending.
Tree Lighting at The Arboretum
The holiday season is just around the corner!
We have several upcoming events in our community starting with the Arboretum’s annual Tree Lighting event tomorrow, Saturday, November 16 from 5 to 7 pm. Santa and Mrs. Claus along with The Grinch, Elves and many others will parade down Main Street in style on firetrucks and escorted by South Barrington Police cars. There will also be a DJ dance party, balloon artists, face painting and more! Calibre Coffee will be selling hot chocolate for a nice warm treat.

Arbor Day Celebration
Did you know South Barrington is currently home to 100 different species of trees?
But come Monday, the 101st tree species will be planted in our community. Please join us Monday, November 18 at 10:00 am, as we mark Arbor Day in the Village honoring the planting of a American Hornbeam tree in the Conservancy of South Barrington.
American hornbeam is a deciduous tree that is native to the Eastern United States. It can be found in areas with moist soil.
During the April meeting, the Village Board passed a resolution with a proclamation for Arbor Day. By planting a tree each year and celebrating Arbor Day, we honor our commitment to be a Tree City USA. Please stay for some light refreshments to commemorate the event.
Yard Waste Collection
Time is running out to have your yard waste removed.
The last day for yard waste collection is Monday, November 27. Yard waste stickers are $3.25 each and must be affixed to every landscape bag and bundle left at the curb for pick-up. Stickers are available for purchase at Village Hall and the Jewel locations on 1485 Palatine Road, Hoffman Estates and 150 Main Street, Barrington.
Red Box Donation
Families have been hit hard with the high cost of food and other household necessities and the needs this year are great.
To help those in need, the Village is participating in the Barrington Giving Day. We have set up Red Box donation box in the Village Hall vestibule. Please consider donating new or gently used coats, boots, snow pants, hats, gloves, blankets, books, toys, and unopened diapers and wipes. All donations go to School District 220 families in need.
The Red Box is only here until Monday, December 1. We have received a few donations, but we need more.
And as a reminder the Village will be closed, Thursday, 11/28 and Friday, 11/29 in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday. We are asking that you drop off your donations as soon as you can, the Village is open weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
FOOD PANTRY
Another way to help those in need is through the Barrington Township Food Pantry.
The Food Pantry is located at 602 Hough Street, Barrington, and can be reached by calling 847-381-5632 X2. Please call ahead for available times to drop off items that are needed.
Click items most requested and find out how to help fill the shelves with donations. Please consider helping them this Holiday season.
December Board Meeting
For those of you planning to attend the December Village Board Meeting, please note there is a date change. The regular Village Board Meeting in December has been moved from Thursday, December 12 to Monday, December 9, at 7 p.m.
As always, I’m here to listen to your thoughts and concerns. Feel free to email me at pmccombie@southbarrington.org, or use the anonymous comment boxes located in the lobbies of Village Hall and the Police Department. I review these messages privately and value your input.
Enjoy the weekend!
Warm regards,
Paula McCombie
