South Barrington Police Department Detectives continue their investigation into a residential burglary that happened in the Stoneridge subdivision on the evening of March 14. South Barrington Police, with help from several other police departments, apprehended four burglars as they drove away from the area. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges of residential burglary against each of the four men. Under Illinois’s new Pretrial Fairness Act, the four were released by a Judge on an I-Bond being booked and processed, while they await their future court date.

At the most recent meeting, the Village Board approved the updated Village of South Barrington Emergency Operating Plan. We have an Emergency Operating Plan for addressing many of the disasters, that could happen in town.  It includes a protocol to be able to respond more quickly in the event of a disaster and bring in the proper agencies that need to be involved. It also includes the pathway to get reimbursement from local, State and Federal funds if eligible.

Based on the responses we received regarding Social Media, the Board approved a Resolution for the Village to contract with Menagery, Inc. for social media creation and management.  Utilizing social media outlets Facebook, Instagram, and X will allow us to communicate important news and events sooner than the Friday e-News if necessary  It is not yet in place, but I will notify you in a future message on how to access this.

The Village yard waste collection begins Monday, April 1. You can buy your yard waste stickers at Village Hall or at Jewel (1485 Palatine Road, Hoffman Estates or 150 Main Street), Barrington for $3.25 each. The sticker must be affixed to each 30-gallon biodegradable landscape bag left out at the curb for collection on garbage days.

As a reminder, there will be a Spring residential brush and branch pick-up. Items for collection must be at the curb by 6:00 am on Monday, April 8 for removal. Although it may take several days to complete this project, Cuba Township will make only ONE sweep per street through the Village.  Please read the Brush Pick-up Guidelines on our website. Yard waste stickers are not needed for this pickup.

State Representative, Martin McLaughlin, has donated solar eclipse glasses for residents so they can view the solar eclipse safely.  The Chicagoland area is expected to experience 94% coverage. The Illinois Optometric Association provided these special glasses. On Monday, April 8, the eclipse will begin at 12:51 p.m. reach its maximum at 2:07 p.m. and will end at 3:22 p.m. If you are interested in picking up a pair of free glasses, stop into the Village of South Barrington lobby located at 30 S. Barrington Rd.

There is a Plan Commission meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 26 at 7:00 p.m.  Topics for the upcoming meeting include, a Public Hearing for updates to the Building Code for drive through businesses in the Village, choosing a date for a continuation of the public hearing for the proposed Forest View Estates development since all of the material has not yet been submitted, a review of the current solar panel code, a presentation by AC Power for a proposed solar farm on the landfill next to Willow Creek Church, proposed updates to the Village Zoning Map to add the Sundance of South Barrington subdivision, a referral for review of the boat storage code, and a proposal for a fence variance. There is always an agenda item for public comment, so if you would like to speak on an issue, please attend.
