Mayor’s Message for Friday, January 5

Dear Residents,
South Barrington recently was highlighted on Channel 2 news and in the newspapers. Last Thursday night, December 28, I called a special Board meeting to pass an ordinance regulating the manner by which operators of buses and other vehicles can use Village streets to load and unload passengers from vehicles. The ordinance allows us to impose fines and vehicle impoundment if violated. Municipalities have been experiencing buses and other vehicles dropping off large numbers of people in the middle of the night without any notice. We are committed to the safety and well-being of our residents and visitors.
Please be aware that property owners are urged to pay late taxes to avoid Annual Tax Sale that begins Tuesday, January 9. To find out if your property is on the Annual Tax Sale list go to cookcountytreasurer.com.
Just a reminder, Congressman Krishnamoorthi is having a Meet and Greet reception at Harper College this Monday, January 8, from 6 – 7:30pm to meet with members of his community. If you are planning to attend, please RSVP here to help determine a head count for the reception. I hope to see you there.
The Barrington Council on Aging (BACOA) is assisting older adults with filing their income tax returns from February- April. Trained AARP tax volunteers will help complete and file returns. Appointments are in-person Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to make an appointment call 847-381-5030. For more information on this program and other upcoming BACOA events, click here.
I am pleased to share the good news that we are welcoming a new business to The Arboretum, TE’AMO Boba Bar. Now open, they are located at 100 W Higgins Rd, suite F-35. Using premium, real loose-leaf teas, organic milks, and plant-based milks, they also offer homemade cane syrups for their drinks. All of the dessert items are made fresh such as baked cakes, and cheesecake baos, to mocha donuts dipped in white chocolate. For more information stop in or visit them online at TE’AMO.
Please help us with this
Items from our residents overloaded our recycle dumpster this week. Material was scattered over the parking lot. Some material had also been mixed with Styrofoam in the Styrofoam recycling bins. Styrofoam cannot be recycled nor picked up for the drop off if it contains a mix of other recyclable materials. Ryan, our code enforcement officer, cleaned up the parking lot and sorted the material that did not belong in the Styrofoam bins in order for it to be processed and for us to avoid a fine. Please adhere to the signage posted.
- NO PACKING PEANUTS
- ONLY Styrofoam is to be put into the labeled dumpster
- All Styrofoam must be clean of debris and liquid
- White Styrofoam only (no colored Styrofoam)
You can always reach me by email at pmccombie@southbarrington.org on our website. Anonymous comment boxes are also available in the lobbies of Village Hall and the Police Department. I read anonymous messages privately, so please do not hesitate to contact me.
Have a very nice weekend!
