Dear Residents,
We began the year with a look back at some of the Village’s accomplishments in 2024. Now, it is time to look to the present and future of our Village – a future you can help shape.
The Village of South Barrington is looking for YOUR feedback on future developments at the South Barrington Conservancy.
The Conservancy is a unique property, and we are looking at ways to make this property even better for the residents of South Barrington. We would love to hear from you on some of the possible improvements we can make.
We need your vote!
By selecting your favorite plan, you will help us choose the plan that best meets our community’s needs and vision. Your input is invaluable as we work together to enhance and preserve the natural beauty of the South Barrington Conservancy.

Plan Commission
The Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals met for a special meeting on Monday, January 27th.
After almost a year of careful deliberation and considerable research, the Commission recommended to the village board approval of an Amendment of a Special Use Permit – Landfill Solar Project on the property located at 541 E. Mundhank Road, which is located in our Village.
It has been a long process to get to this point. The Plan Commissioners and Village staff spent countless hours going through analyses and reports that were submitted from various experts to determine what kind of effect the project would have on the community and the environment.
Some of the reports include an Adjacent Real Estate Property Value Impact Study, a Sound Impact Study, a Surface Water Runoff Study, and a Wetland and Waterway Delineation Report. Experts and consultants in various fields of study provided advice on this project to make sure that the Commission had the best information they could possibly have. The next step is for the Village to vote on the Plan Commission’s recommendations. I thank the residents of our community who attended the meetings and voiced their concerns. Everyone involved took this issue seriously and I appreciate their hard work and commitment.
Pothole Maintenance
Due to the recent milder temperatures, the Illinois Department of Transportation is advising the public that maintenance crews are out patrolling and repairing potholes on state highways and interstates across the state, requiring drivers to slow down.
Please use caution and move over for workers. Non-emergency patching operations usually take place during nonpeak travel periods and often require temporary lane closures. If you notice a pothole along the Village streets, please use our online form to report the issue.
Additionally, please be advised that Com Ed is pruning trees along route 72 to protect their power lines. Please see more information below, after the Village calendar, regarding the tree trimming.
Sustainability Efforts
Did you know that as a resident of South Barrington you are also a member of SWANCC, Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County?
I encourage you to visit their website to see all the FREE services they offer. New this year they have introduced the Recycle Coach tool. This new recycling tool can be found on SWANCC’s Website.
The site also has information on how and where to recycle based on your home address. Simply enter your address for your community collection schedule and events; explore educational information in the Discovery Zone.
Download the app today and set alerts and reminders for your collection day, holidays, and special announcements!
Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and it’s a great time to patronize our local restaurants and shops when thinking of that special someone – even if it is you! Many of the South Barrington restaurants and businesses are offering some “sweet” specials to help you celebrate. You can find more information on the Arboretum of South Barrington website or check out some of the specials listed in the newsletter below. Our South Barrington businesses are grateful for your continued support!
As always, I am here to listen to your thoughts and concerns. Feel free to email me at pmccombie@southbarrington.org, or use the anonymous comment boxes located in the lobbies of Village Hall and the Police Department. I review these messages privately and value your input.
Have a great weekend.
