Dear Residents,
If you haven’t signed up for the Village’s CodeRED emergency notification system, you may have missed Chief Roman’s message about a situation that happened in town early Tuesday morning.
Detectives from a DuPage County police department were pursuing three suspects who stole a semi-tractor on I-90. The suspects drove north on Barrington Road. When officers tried to stop them, the three white male suspects fled on foot. One suspect fled from the area of Barrington Road and Covered Bridge Road while two others ran from the area of Bartlett Road and Liberty Drive.
Officers from several departments, including ours, searched the area from 4:30 to about 8:00 am. They also used drones and police dogs. Officers apprehended one of the three suspects.
The DuPage County police department has identified the other two suspects and is working to take them into custody. There were no vehicles stolen in South Barrington and there is no danger to the South Barrington community.
If important messages need to be conveyed quickly, we utilize the CodeRED system. Please visit the Emergency Notification page on our website to register and receive messages.
Today, I visited the Barrington Post Office to inquire in person if there was an update on the spotty service our residents have been receiving. Village representatives have made numerous calls to the Post Office during the past several months regarding the Post Office’s unpredictable delivery service. The Barrington Post Office still does not have a permanent assigned postal carrier to deliver the mail in the Woods of South Barrington. Currently, the postal delivery staff is working double shifts to get the mail out. They are aware of the problems we are having and are working to fill this position and improve our service.
On Wednesday, February 14, I attended the Barrington Area Economic Summit at Barrington’s White House. I had the opportunity to speak about the Village and our achievements over the past year as well as what we are working on this year. I will provide a detailed update on these projects in next Friday’s message.
Panelists included (left to right) Village President Karen Darch (Barrington), Village President Brian Cecola (Barrington Hills), Village President Greg Rusteberg, Chief Village Officer Michael Talbett (Kildeer), Village President Kevin Richardson (Lake Barrington), Village President Bill Jacob (Long Grove), Village President Eleanor Sweet-McDonnell (North Barrington), Village President Keith Vogeler (Port Barrington), Village President Paula McCombie, Village President Andy Hay (Tower Lakes)
Earlier this week, Chief Roman and I attended the Ribbon Cutting for Pure Green in the Arboretum (suite F-40). Pure Green is proud to serve delicious handmade smoothies with pure, fresh, and natural ingredients crafted by sports nutritionists. I encourage you to stop by and welcome them to the Village!

There is an upcoming Plan Commission meeting scheduled for Monday, February 26 at 7:00 pm. This Public Hearing will have agenda items including the livestock variance request for a flock of chickens, a request for a roof-mounted solar panel variance (mounted panels on the street side roof of the home), and the continuation of the proposed residential development of 26 homes located at the corner of Mundhank and Freeman Roads. I encourage you to come, listen to the presentations, and voice your ideas and opinions.
Last week, we completed the trimming of 229 trees in The Coves and Sunset Ridge Farms subdivisions. Last fall, trimming was done in South Barrington Lakes, Bridlewood, and The Meadows subdivisions. Tree trimming will continue in the village throughout the year. To keep our Ash trees alive, we will be treating them with injections this summer, which has been effective in the past against the Ash Borer. We have a replacement program for trees that die and we are working to increase the number of species throughout the Village. This effort will help prevent the risk of a large loss of trees in case of disease or insect infestation.
You may notice new temporary weight limit signs throughout the village. Our seasonal load restriction is necessary to maintain the integrity of our roads through the upcoming freeze-thaw cycles we will be experiencing.
As always, I can be reached by email at pmccombie@southbarrington.org or online through our website here. I can also be reached through the anonymous comment boxes located in the Village Hall and Police Department lobbies. I read anonymous messages privately, so please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss any matter.
Enjoy your weekend!
Paula McCombie
Mayor
