Dear Residents,
I hope everyone is having a great Holiday season. As a reminder, Village Hall Administrative offices will be closed Tuesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 25 in observance of the Christmas holiday. We will resume normal business hours on Thursday, December 26 at 8 a.m.
Although the offices are closed, our police officers are on duty 24 hours a day, including holidays and weekends. If you need to contact the police department, do not hesitate to call 9-1-1.
House Decorating Contest Winners
Our Holiday House Decorating contest was a tremendous success, and I thank everyone who submitted an entry.
I also thank the Architectural Control Commission (ACC) for taking the time to judge the homes. The homes and displays were all beautiful. The Architectural Control Commission saw many other beautifully decorated homes that unfortunately were not entered in the contest. If you typically decorate your home, please consider entering the contest next year.
The winners of the House Decorating contest and the Arboretum of South Barrington gift Cards from Mr. Heidner are the following homes.
- 1st Place $200 is awarded to John and Penny Kashmier at 8 Wescott Lane, The Glen subdivision
- 2nd Place $150 is awarded to Bryon Rue at 37 Wychwood, Cotswold Manor subdivision
- 3rd Place $100 is awarded to Joan Miller at 4 Willow Bay Drive, Willow Bay subdivision
Congratulations winners!

Safety When Walking
The short days do not mean you have to give up fitness or pet walking. If you find yourself starting or ending your day with a walk in the dark, here are some tips to help keep you seen by others and safe:
- A headlamp as it keeps your hands free, and can illuminate a path
- Reflective clothing with reflection on both front and back or a reflective vest that can be bought at Home Depot or Amazon among many other places.
- Wear bright colors
- Be sure to Walk on the safer side of the street which is that of oncoming traffic
Food Pantry
There are many great causes to give to during the Holiday season but one I hope you will consider giving to this year is the Barrington Township Food Pantry located at 602 S, Hough Street. The hours to drop off a donation are Monday – Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (by appointment only). Food Pantry recipients can pick up a generous bag of pantry food items from BACOG partner, Barrington Township Food Pantry. For more information about the Food Pantry, please visit the website: click here.
Holidays at the Arboretum
It is still not too late for your kids to see Santa and Mrs. Claus. The Arboretum is home to the Clauses, but while there is still time to see them – tomorrow is the last chance. They will be there from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the seasonal tent. Bring your camera to capture the memory! The Arb is a great place to dine and to purchase those last-minute holiday gifts!
I would like to wish Happy Holidays to all those who are celebrating. It is my hope you will have the opportunity to reconnect with friends and family and build memories this Holiday season.
As always, I’m here to listen to your thoughts and concerns. Feel free to email me at pmccombie@southbarrington.org, or use the anonymous comment boxes located in the lobbies of Village Hall and the Police Department. I review these messages privately and value your input.
Happy Holidays!
Paula McCombie
