Mayor’s Message February 27, 2026

Dear Residents,
This week, I had the privilege of joining several other area mayors at a press conference with former mayor and current State Representative Marty McLaughlin.
We held the press conference to express our concerns about proposals in Springfield to strip communities of local zoning authority. We are fighting for the right to keep local zoning decisions local. Communities should have the right to decide on merits of building projects.

The Daily Herald covered the event. You can access the full story HERE
State of the Greater Barrington Area Economic Summit
Last week, I had the opportunity to participate in the State of the Greater Barrington Area Economic Summit. It’s always valuable to sit down with neighboring communities, share what we’ve been working on, and hear what’s ahead across the region. I wanted to take a moment to share some of the things I highlighted and keep you updated on the continued progress happening right here in South Barrington.
I’m proud to share that we have now kept our real estate tax request flat for the 9th year in a row. At the same time, we took steps to protect our natural resources by implementing seasonal irrigation restrictions to help conserve water and support the long-term health of our aquifers.
We also continued working with Burns & McDonnell on our Lake Michigan water study as we pursue a future allocation, a long-term investment for the Village’s safety and sustainability.
In addition, we discussed the ongoing efforts to renew our electrical aggregation program, which includes a green energy component, and the updates to our zoning code to better reflect our present, and form a strategic development team.
I was able to share information about some of the great community moments this year, including our very first Pumpkin Smash event. It brought together residents of all ages, with support from our Fire Departments and pumpkins donated by Goebbert’s, turning seasonal waste into compost in a fun and environmentally friendly way.
On the recreational side, I discussed our cricket fields which are made possible through a partnership with the Midwest Cricket Conference, the largest in the Chicago area, and we’re happy to share they’ll be returning in 2026.
2026 Is Off to a Strong Start
This year is already shaping up to be an exciting one. Most recently, South Barrington was awarded a $600,000 OSLAD grant through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. These funds will help us enhance the Conservancy, our only Village-owned passive park, and make it an even more enjoyable space year-round.
Behind the scenes, we’re rolling out a new software system across Finance, Public Works, and the Police Department that will improve efficiency for staff and make things easier for residents, including the long-awaited ability to pay by credit card!
Other initiatives moving forward include managing this year’s road program, beginning construction of the community solar project on the former, now decommissioned landfill, and participating in America250. Our local efforts are already underway with the America250 flag signing initiative, which will serve as a future time capsule representing the people who make South Barrington what it is today. An “America Gives” event is also being planned for this spring in conjunction with Arbor Day.
Additionally, the State’s Barrington Road widening project is expected to move forward this year, with an anticipated April start. I will continue to update all of you on these exciting new developments as they happen.
Continued Business Growth
Welcoming new businesses never gets old. The Executive Center has welcomed Barrington Smiles, Once Upon a Smile, and AVU Collective which have recently opened their doors while Integris has joined the South Barrington Office Complex.
The Arboretum of South Barrington continues to see exciting additions like Tangled Roots Craft Beer & Kitchen, The Greggory (Ranked #33 Best Steak Houses in North America), SIM Racing, Flexx Personal Training, Tee-Off Golf, F45 Training, Higgy’s Piano Bar, Skyward Fencing, and 810 Entertainment in the former Pinstripes location.
Coming this summer, Bundoo Khan Express and Club 5 Health are also expected to open. I look forward to continued growth and opportunities in our community.
Looking Ahead
As I reflect on everything we accomplished in 2025 and what’s already in motion for 2026, I remain proud and confident in the path we are on.
South Barrington continues to grow responsibly, while keeping what matters most at the forefront: our residents, our quality of life, our fiscal responsibility and our shared vision for the future.
