We’re Smashing Into Fall—Literally!
We’re really excited to announce our first-ever Pumpkin Smash event November 8th from 9:30am-12pm at the South Barrington Conservancy! What better way to say goodbye to fall than by giving your pumpkins one last hurrah—before they head off to be composted!
We learned about this fun, eco-friendly idea through SWANCC and SCARCE and knew right away it was a perfect fit for our Village—combining sustainability with a little community fun.
This event is open to the public, so spread the word and bring your friends and family!
To help us plan enough “pumpkin smashing supplies,” please register by emailing mterfehn@southbarrington.org.
What are pumpkin smashing supplies, you ask?
We’ll have large tarps and sturdy wood stumps set up as smashing stands. Place your aging pumpkin, grab a rubber mallet, and let the fun begin! Prefer a gentler goodbye? Toss your pumpkin straight into the compost dumpster on-site.
After the smashing, all pumpkins will be taken for composting, keeping them out of landfills and giving them a new purpose.
Our friends from Goebbert’s South Barrington will be there serving up delicious fall treats and hot (or cold!) cider to keep everyone fueled and festive.
Both Barrington Countryside FPD and East Dundee Fire District will be joining us with in-service engines on display! A great opportunity for families to see the truck up close and meet our local firefighters.
