Dear Residents,
We’re heading into the weekend after an absolutely beautiful week of weather! The crisp mornings, sunshine, and comfortable fall temperatures have been a welcome reminder of just how special this time of year can be.
Here’s hoping Mother Nature keeps the beautiful fall weather coming for a little while longer. Enjoy the weekend, get outside, and make the most of it!
ABANDONED PUPPIES LOOKING FOR NEW HOMES
The outpouring of love and support for five puppies found at Mundhank Road and Red Hill Lane late Sunday evening has been incredible.
Our officers brought the puppies to Golf Rose Animal Hospital, where they are receiving care.
While it is always difficult to see animals abandoned, we are encouraged by the tremendous interest from members of the community who have expressed an interest in adopting these puppies and providing them with loving homes.
The Village continues to stay in contact with Golf Rose Animal Hospital in South Barrington for updates as the hospital works with the Northwest Rescue Network Team (NWRT) to coordinate rescue placement.
With Halloween just around the corner, NWRT has given the puppies a fitting Halloween-themed name: The Hocus Pocus Litter! Meet: Winifred, Mary, Sarah, Max, Binx!

We have put the pups on our South Barrington Facebook Page and are grateful to everyone who has shared the puppies’ stories and have offered support. We hope these five little pups will soon find the loving homes they deserve. Adoption information should be available soon.
Residents interested in adopting members of the Hocus Pocus litter should continue checking the Village’s Facebook page for the latest updates and information:

BRUSH PICKUP IS FINALLY HERE STARTING TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13TH
The Village-wide brush pickup is back but will only be here for a limited time!
Beginning, Tuesday, October 13, residents who wish to participate should have their brush properly prepared and placed at the curb by 6:00 a.m. to ensure collection.
PLEASE NOTE Cuba Township will make one sweep through the Village. Once they are done going through our community, they are done.
Due to the volume of brush collected, pickup may take several days to complete. We appreciate your patience as crews work throughout the Village.
Yard waste stickers are NOT required for this special pickup. To ensure your brush is collected, please review the following guidelines:
- Pile Size: Brush piles may be no larger than 4 feet high × 4 feet wide × 10 feet long
- Branch Size: Individual branches may not exceed 8 inches in diameter.
- Placement: Place all branches in the same direction, with the cut ends facing the road.
- No Bags or Ties: Brush must not be bagged or tied.
What Is Not Accepted: This service does not include tree stumps, root balls, full tree removals, or lot clearing.

AR-BOO-RETUM Trick-or-Treat
It is Trick-or-Treat season at the Arboretum!
The Arboretum of South Barrington is hosting their AR-BOO-RETUM on Saturday, October 24, from 1:00–3:00 p.m., giving families a safe and fun way to enjoy some Halloween festivities.
Children and families are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite costumes and bring their trick-or-treat bags for an afternoon of candy and treats. Guests can stroll throughout the Arboretum and visit participating retailers and the Events Tent for goodies along the way.
Adults can also enjoy the afternoon through the Arboretum’s Sip & Shop program. Guests may purchase a special Sip & Shop cup with lid and enjoy select beverages while shopping at participating locations, including Tangled Roots Craft Brew & Kitchen, The Hampton Social, Sim Racing, Georgio’s Pizzeria & Pub, The Greggory, and Star Cinema Grill. Restrictions apply.
AR-BOO-RETUM is a fun Halloween event you and your family will not want to miss.

VOLUNTEER NEEDED FOR ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL COMMISSION (ACC)
The Village has an exciting service opportunity for a concerned resident interested in shaping the future of our great community.
There is a vacancy on the Architectural Control Commission (ACC) we need to fill. The ACC serves as the Village’s design and aesthetics review body. The Commission is tasked with evaluating the appearance, site design, landscaping, and environmental aspects of proposed improvements and providing recommendations to the Village Board before projects can proceed.
If you have a passion for community service and knowledge and experience in design, architecture, aesthetics, landscaping, or related fields through training, education, and/or professional or personal experience, then you are the person we need to fill this role. Apply today.
RESIDENTIAL & BUSINESS ALARM PERMITS
For those with burglar and panic alarms, please make sure they are registered.
Residents and businesses with burglar or panic alarms are required to register their alarms with the Village by completing an Alarm Permit Application.
Keeping your alarm permit information current is important because it helps the South Barrington Police Department quickly identify the property and respond appropriately in the event an alarm is activated. This permit ensures your alarms work the way they are supposed to and direct police officers to the right property.
Alarm permits expire on December 31:
- Residential: Every 3 years
- Business: Every 2 years
Check your alarm permit status and renew now before they expire!

More information and the Alarm Permit Application can be found on the Village website. Questions or need assistance with registration? Contact Nicole Vaccarello at nvaccarello@southbarrington.org.
SOUTH BARRINGTON PUMPKIN SMASH
The second annual Pumpkin Smash promises to be even bigger and better than the first one.
Mark your calendars for November 7th at the South Barrington Conservancy for the second Annual Pumpkin Smash. Participants can stop by anytime between 9:30am-12pm to smash those pumpkins and send them on their way to be composted. This is a great and fun way to responsibly dispose of your Halloween pumpkins. See you on Nov. 7th!
Register with Makayla at mterfehn@southbarrington.org so we can begin to plan for our smashing supplies. The event is open to the public!

As always, I am here to listen to your thoughts and concerns. Feel free to email me at pmccombie@southbarrington.org, or use the anonymous comment boxes located in the lobbies of Village Hall and the Police Department. I review these messages privately and value your input.
Have an enjoyable weekend!
Paula McCombie, Mayor
