Dear Residents,
October is here which means soon, there will be trick-or-treaters walking our neighborhoods.
Trick-or-Treat hours for South Barrington is set for Saturday, October 31, from 3:00–7:00 p.m. If you’re welcoming trick-or-treaters to your home, simply turn on your front porch or door light to let little ghosts, goblins and superheroes know you’re open for business! If you prefer not to have trick-or-treaters, simply leave your porch lights off.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU: BIKE/ PEDESTRIAN PATHS IN SOUTH BARRINGTON
You may recall that in 2023, following a series of public hearings and community meetings, the Village adopted a Comprehensive Plan that included enhancing pedestrian transportation options, including bike paths throughout South Barrington.
Following the positive feedback received from the community, the Village has pursued grant opportunities to help fund these improvements. As part of the grant application process, we are asking residents to share their feedback through a brief community survey.
As a Village Board, we have participated in District 220’s two Middle School government classes yearly to listen to the students and have them ask questions. We then receive numerous letters from the classes with comments and suggestions. Number 1 on their list over the past several years has been pedestrian walkways/ bike paths. Now we would like to hear from our adult population on how they feel.
The proposed project would provide a pedestrian and bike path extending from Penny Road at Algonquin Rd, past Rose Elementary School at Bartlett Road where it goes South to Higgins Road. It would also be very close to to connecting 2 forest preserves. A projected bike path map in our Comprehensive Plan is included within the survey for residents to review.
The feedback collected will help us with the Village’s grant application and will help demonstrate current community interest as we continue working toward on this project with money from Grants.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL COMMISSION (ACC)
The Village is in need of a volunteer to help shape the future of our community.
We are seeking a qualified volunteer to serve on the Architectural Control Commission (ACC), which serves as the Village’s design and aesthetics review body. The Commission is tasked with evaluating the appearance, site design, landscaping, and environmental aspects of proposed improvements and providing recommendations to the Village Board before projects can proceed.
The new Commissioner must have knowledge and experience in design, architecture, aesthetics, landscaping, or related fields through training, education, and/or professional or personal experience.
If you are passionate about preserving the character, quality, and integrity of South Barrington and would like to play an active role in shaping the community, please consider serving on the ACC or if you know someone who may be a good fit, please have them reach out to me as the Village will begin the interview process immediately.
