Dear Residents,
In true Midwest fashion, we experienced multiple seasons in the span of a single week!
It may be AC weather one day and the heat may be cranked up the next. The one silver lining in the drastic weather changes is the fact that warmer days and spring projects are just around the corner.
2026 ROAD PROGRAM
The Village officially opened bids for the 2026 Road Maintenance Program on March 3rd.
The project includes resurfacing approximately 2.2 miles of local roadways at various locations throughout the Village. We will be resurfacing the streets in Crabtree Trails and The Ponds.
Following a review of the submitted bids by the Village’s engineering firm, we awarded the project to Builders Paving, LLC. Construction is expected to begin in late spring, and the Village will provide updates to residents as additional scheduling information becomes available.
RENTAL REMINDERS
Any homeowner renting or offering to rent their South Barrington home or guest space is required to obtain a valid South Barrington Rental License.
Licenses are valid for one year and expire on March 31st. All rentals must be for a minimum term of four (4) months. Rental License Applications are available on the Village website by clicking HERE. To avoid penalties, please submit the completed application, required supporting documents, and applicable fee to the Village before May 1st.
For a copy of the Village Code related to the Licensing of Single-Family Rental Properties, please visit the Village website. If you have questions, please contact Ryan Murphy at rmurphy@southbarrington.org or 847-381-7510.
HOA MEETING SPACE
As a reminder, South Barrington Homeowners Associations (HOAs) are welcome to utilize Rose Hall for upcoming HOA meetings. If you would like me to attend your meeting, please make sure to include that request when reserving the space so I can ensure my availability. I always enjoy the opportunity to share updates about Village happenings and to hear about matters important to your HOA community.
The space is available during and after normal business hours, provided there are no previously scheduled Village meetings. To reserve the space, please contact Makayla Terfehn at mterfehn@southbarrington.org or 224-396-0179 to make arrangements.
DO YOU HAVE YOUR YARD STICKERS?
Warmer weather means it is time to get outdoors and attend to lawns and gardens.
As you start your spring yard care, please remember that Village Yard Waste Collection begins on Monday, April 6th.
Yard waste stickers can be purchased at Village Hall during normal business hours or at Jewel (1485 Palatine Road, Hoffman Estates, or 150 Main Street, Barrington). The cost remains $3.25 per sticker.
Stickers must be affixed to each 30-gallon biodegradable landscape bag placed at the curb for collection on your regular garbage day.
GOEBBERT’S OPENING DAY- GARDEN CENTER
Speaking of gardens, Goebbert’s will soon be open for the season! The Garden Center officially opens Friday, April 10th, and will be open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
They’re also offering some great workshops to inspire your spring gardening projects:
- April 16 | 5:00–6:00 p.m. – Successful Container Gardening
- April 18 | 1:00–2:00 p.m. – Little Fresh Veggie Gardening for Kids (Cost: $20)

Both workshops require registration. Be sure to follow the Goebbert’s event calendar to stay up to date on all the exciting offerings this season!
As always, I am here to listen to your thoughts and concerns. Feel free to email me at pmccombie@southbarrington.org, or use the anonymous comment boxes located in the lobbies of Village Hall and the Police Department. I review these messages privately and value your input.
Have an enjoyable weekend!

Paula McCombie
