Dear Residents,
Today is the last day of February and also the last day to complete the Conservancy survey. Residents’ input is invaluable as we work together to enhance and preserve the natural beauty of the South Barrington Conservancy. Click the link below to take our NEW brief survey. Here is the link to the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XS2R3X5
Rental License
Anyone renting or offering rental of a South Barrington home or guest space must have a valid South Barrington Rental License. South Barrington Rental Licenses are valid for one year and run from April 1st to March 31st of the following year. Rental agreements must be for a minimum of 4 months.
Rental License Applications are available on our website here. Submit the required application, supporting documents, and fee to the Village before May 1 to avoid penalties. For a copy of the Village Code related to the Licensing of Single Family Rental Properties, click here. If you have questions, please contact Ryan Murphy at 847-381-7510.
Property Tax Bills
The due date for the first installment of Cook County property tax bills is just days away.
The payments are due March 4, 2025. The First Installment is 55% of the previous year’s total tax. Exemptions that can reduce a property owner’s taxes are applied to the Second Installment.
If your property taxes are not paid through escrow, you can make a payment online, by visiting cookcountytreasurer.com and following these steps:
1. Select the blue box labeled “Pay Online for Free.”
2. Enter your address or 14-digit Property Index Number (PIN).
A picture of your property should appear, so you’ll know you’re paying the correct bill. There is no fee to pay online from your bank account. The Treasurer’s Office accepts partial payments, but First Installment taxes must be paid by March 4th to avoid a late charge of 0.75 percent per month, as mandated by Illinois law.
Unclaimed Property
The Illinois Unclaimed Property website is a tremendous resource for Illinois residents. Taking a few minutes to check the site could lead to a nice pay day.
Simply go to the Illinois Treasurer website and enter your information on the search, and if you find your name and corresponding address, click “claim” and follow the instructions to claim your property. It is an easy way to find a few extra dollars for your pocket.
Weight limit signs
The new temporary weight limit signs recently placed throughout the village are there to protect our roads during the freeze-thaw cycles we are experiencing. It is important to protect the integrity of our roads. Look for the weight limit restrictions to be removed once we get through the winter weather.
Arboretum reschedules two events previously cancelled
Due to inclement weather and safety concerncs, The Arb had cancelled two popular events on February 12th.
The Superhero & Princess party and the Acoustic Duo from HIINFIDELTY shows were both cancelled due to weather. The Arb has just announced the makeup dates for both shows.
As always, I am here to listen to your thoughts and concerns. Feel free to email me at pmccombie@southbarrington.org, or use the anonymous comment boxes located in the lobbies of Village Hall and the Police Department. I review these messages privately and value your input.
Have a great weekend,
Paula McCombie
