Dear Residents,
This coming week is looking to be a busy one in South Barrington.
One important upcoming meeting is the Plan Commission, which will meet on Oct. 16th at 7:00 pm. The Area N church and the Forest View subdivision will be discussed at this meeting. I encourage anyone interested in these topics to attend.
New officer sworn in
I had the privilege this week to swear in new Police Officer, David Blaszczyk, who took the Oath of Office to become a member of the South Barrington Police Department. He is an experienced police officer and has worked for both Vernon Hills and Northbrook Police Department as well as the DuPage County Sheriff’s office.
Welcome Officer David Blaszczyk! The Board and I look forward to working with you.
Pictured below Mayor McCombie and Officer David Blaszcyk.
We also welcomed Angela Scola, pictured below, as our new executive Administrative Assistant who started this week. We are happy to have you as a part of our team.
Michael Dropka also attended the meeting. He will be taking Bob Palmer’s spot as our new Village Administrator starting November 1. We wish Bob the very best and are certainly sad to see him go, but we also look forward to working with our new Village Administrator, Michael Dropka!
BACOG CONNECTIVITY SURVEY
The BACOG Connectivity Committee is seeking community feedback through a survey. The goal of the Barrington Area Council of Governments (BACOG) Connectivity Committee is to explore opportunities and needs for improved non-motorized transportation throughout our region. This includes dedicated biking/walking paths and/or bike lanes. Some of the primary objectives for identifying potential projects are public safety, especially in areas around schools, and improving accessibility for non-motorized connections to many of the great parks and businesses our region has to offer.
The BACOG Connectivity Committee has compiled a comprehensive list of beneficial projects in the region, many of which are in South Barrington. It is important to note that just because these projects are identified, it does not mean they will go forward or receive funding. The next step is to engage the community to provide feedback on the proposed projects. After the Committee has received input from the community, they will then develop a plan for how to move forward with seeking approval, engineering design, and exploring potential sources of funding. The Village of South Barrington is a member of BACOG. I encourage everyone to complete the survey. Use the below QR Code to let your voice be heard!
Author to speak on raising children the right way
There is an exciting program taking place 10 minutes away from South Barrington. I have listened to some of the wise words in lectures by Acharya Prayagraj Hule in the past, and it is worth the short trip to Bartlett to hear him speak.
Hule will be speaking about “raising children the right way” on Oct. 24th at 5:30 pm at the International University of Vedic Wellness in Barlett on Bartlett and Bode Road, which is run by our local Resident Dr Kumar. See the flyer below to register.
GIOSTRA Opening
We have some very exciting news for our community. GIOSTRA by Fabio Viviani is opening!
Viviani is a celebrity chef who lives in Barrington Hills. He busted onto the national scene as a contestant on Bravo’s Top Chef program. Since then, he has made frequent appearances on Food Network and shows like “Good Morning America.”
Giostra by Fabio Viviani in South Barrington opens on Oct. 14 and will bring the charm of Old Florence to life with simple, classic Italian dishes inspired by Fabio’s childhood. Enjoy recipes passed down from his family, paired with a glass of wine from their curated selection. Step into the welcoming atmosphere and experience the flavors and traditions close to his heart.
The restaurant is located at the South Barrington Arboretum, 100 W Higgins Rd. Suite H-20. To view their extensive menu and to make a reservation click GIOSTRA. This is the first of four restaurants to open at the Arboretum. Welcome Chef Fabio to South Barrington!
Brush pickup
Don’t forget the Brush Pickup scheduled for Tuesday October 22nd.
Please have your brush at the curb by 6:00 am on Tuesday, October 22.
Although it may take a few days, Cuba Township will make only ONE sweep through the Village to collect brush, starting on the northeast side. This collection does not include all yard waste, such as leaves, so please read and follow the Brush Pick-up Guidelines below to ensure your pickup. Brush piles are limited to 4 ft. high by four ft. wide and no longer than 10 ft. You will not need yard waste stickers for this special pickup.
Hydrant Flushing
Hydrant flushing for the municipal water service area is scheduled to begin Monday, October 14.
The municipal water service area includes The Arboretum, Regency, The Woods, Village Enclave, and Encore Memory Care of South Barrington. The Village plans to flush all fire hydrants within the municipal water service area to verify that the hydrants are functioning correctly and to help maintain good water quality. Please read below for more information about the hydrant flushing.
Garden Club
Once again, the South Barrington Garden Club designed and donated a beautiful arrangement for the Fall season in the two urns in front of Village Hall. The Garden Club is dedicated to educating the community on horticulture while enhancing the beauty of the Village. Their generosity continues to enhance the quality of life in our community, and I am truly thankful for all they continue to do on our behalf.
Halloween Party at the Arboretum
Let’s do the Mash – the Monster Mash!
Grab your friends, put on your costumes, and dance the night away at the Halloween Costume Ball this Wednesday, October 16 from 6 to 8 p.m.!
The Arboretum of South Barrington and Georgio’s have partnered up to host this incredible event. Pizza, dancing, a costume parade, and party games – fun for the whole family! Located in the Seasonal Tent. See you on the 16th!
*Please note this is a ticketed event. Each ticket is $10 + $1 fee. To secure your ticket CLICK HERE.
As always, I’m here to listen to your thoughts and concerns. Feel free to email me at pmccombie@southbarrington.org, or use the anonymous comment boxes located in the lobbies of Village Hall and the Police Department. I review these messages privately and value your input.
Enjoy the weekend!
Warm regards,
Paula McCombie
