Dear Residents,
Private Well Testing
Well…As they say is a deep subject…
But it is a subject that is sharply in focus in our community as these are the last few days for those residents on private wells to purchase BACOG’s Annual Level 1 Private Well Water Testing kits at Village Hall. Private well owners are encouraged to test their wells for bacteria and nitrates annually. Residents on the Village’s municipal well water are ineligible to participate in this program as their water is tested on a regular basis.
Water test kits can be purchased for $16 (check or cash) at Village Hall during regular business hours through Monday, September 30. On Tuesday, October 1, residents may drop off their collected water samples at the Barrington Area Library anytime between 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Plan Commission Meeting
We had a very well-attended Plan Commission on Monday to discuss Forest View Estates, Area N, the AC Power Community Solar Project, and driveway widths in the Woods of South Barrington.
In order to ensure these projects are properly vetted, we have extended the review process. These agenda items have all been continued and are scheduled to be addressed on October 16th at 7pm. I invite and encourage any members of our community to attend this meeting.
Pool Drainage Ordinance
With the weather cooling, those residents with pools must follow the Village Code when draining their pools.
Specifically, per Village Ordinance (2011-930, 2-17-11) when draining your pool, there shall be no direct connection made to the sanitary sewer or septic system, and no drainage shall be made into or over a septic system. Clean, non-chlorinated, pH neutral water may be discharged to storm sewers or surface drainage-ways. No water shall be discharged into the stormwater drainage system either containing any pollutant that causes or contributes to a violation of applicable water quality standards and such discharge shall not result in nuisance conditions, including, but not limited to offensive color, odor, stagnant wet areas, or a breeding environment for insects. Prior to pumping out the pool water, have your contractor notify the Village that the above conditions have been met.
We thank you for your attention to these ordinances. Maintaining the quality of our water in our ponds and lakes is of the utmost importance.
J.U.L.I.E: Get Outside This Autumn!
October is a great month to see all of the beauty nature has to offer. The bursts of rich reds, warm ambers, and deep yellows and golds make fall in the Midwest truly special.
Fall is also a good time to plant trees and shrubs as the soil is warm enough for roots to take hold before winter arrives. But before you dig – please call Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators (JULIE) at least two business days prior to digging. A utility professional will come out to your location and mark the underground utility lines. Also, make sure you fill out a locate ticket to prevent residential lines such as internet lines, gas lines, etc. from being hit.
To find out more about how to fill out a locate ticket, prior to digging and other information click J.U.L.I.E.
Remember to Set Your House Alarms
The South Barrington Police Department is investigating an attempted residential burglary that occurred Thursday evening in the Glenn subdivision, according to South Barrington Police Chief Mike Garrison.
Three unknown subjects tried to enter the residents’ home through the back patio door, but thankfully they were unsuccessful because the house alarm activated. Officers arrived on scene a few minutes after the alarm was triggered and discovered the rear patio door window cracked. The South Barrington Police Department investigation is ongoing. If you have any information that would be helpful, please call 847-381-7511.
It is very important that you take action to protect yourself from these situations. Setting your residential alarm does deter criminals. And remember if you see or hear anything unusual, please call 9-1-1 right away.
