Dear Residents,
We had a good response to our survey on the Conservancy and I thank everyone who took the time to fill it out and provide some much-appreciated feedback.
Based on the responses we have received, Upland Design has put together a modified Conservancy Master Plan, which will be discussed at the next Village Board meeting next Thursday, October 10 at Village Hall. I invite you to come to the meeting and see their newest presentation for yourself and as always, your input is welcome and encouraged.
Sad goodbye to Village Administrator Robert (Bob) Palmer
After more than 10 years, the Village will be saying goodbye to Village Administrator, Robert (Bob) Palmer. We have all enjoyed working with Bob and wish him well on his future endeavors. The Oct. 10th Board meeting will be his last board meeting, as he will be leaving his post at South Barrington on November 1st. While we are happy for him, we are certainly sad to see him go. Our community has benefited from his professionalism and hard work. He will be missed.
New officer to be sworn in
I am pleased to announce I will be swearing in our newest police officer, David Blaszczyk. David comes with more than 7 years of experience from the Vernon Hills Police Department and the DuPage County Sheriff’s office.
David has also worked as a Community Service Officer for the Northbrook Police Department. Please join us as we welcome him to South Barrington at next Thursdays Board meeting!
New member of the Village team
We have recently added a new member of the Village team.
Angela Scola will serve as our new Executive Administrative Assistant. She will be involved in IT requests, helping residents who come into Village Hall, FOIA requests and other clerical work. We are looking forward to Angela becoming a part of our team, Her first day is this Monday, October 7.
Well Water test event a success
BACOG’s Annual Level 1 Private Well Water test event was a tremendous success!
The Village sold 97 out of 100 test kits. BACOG representatives said they were busy all day and likely doubled the number of total kits sold. We appreciate your participation and support!
Pictured below, South Barrington Mayor Paula McCombie drops off her private well water to test at the BACOG Private Well Water Testing Event.
Hydrant Flushing
The Village will be doing Hydrant flushing in the municipal water service areas.
The municipal water service area includes the Arboretum, Regency, The Woods, Village Enclave, and Revere Court of South Barrington. The Hydrant flushing will begin the week of October 14. Most Village residents are served by private well and septic systems and the flushing will not impact their water service.
Signs will be posted in the municipal water service areas to notify residents and businesses. Hydrant flushing is a semi-annual process to check hydrant operation and flush the water lines. The Village plans to flush all the fire hydrants within the municipal water service area. The hydrant flushing will not only verify that the hydrants are functioning properly, but it will also help to maintain good water quality.
Village-wide Brush Pick-up
There will be a special village-wide brush pickup in two weeks.
Please remember your brush must be at the curb by 6:00 am on Tuesday, October 22.
Although it may take a few days, Cuba Township will make only ONE sweep through the Village to collect brush, starting on the northeast side. This collection does not include all yard waste, such as leaves, so please read and follow the Brush Pick-up Guidelines below to ensure your pickup. Brush piles are limited to 4 ft. high by four ft. wide and no longer than 10 ft. You will not need yard waste stickers for this special pickup.
Early Voting
Our office has received a lot of phone calls lately about early voting. Village Hall is NOT an early voting location. Early voting begins Monday, October 21st. The nearest early voting sites are the Village of Barrington Hills and the Village of Hoffman Estates. More information on voting by mail, early voting site locations and hours can be found by clicking HERE.
Fall Fest at the Arboretum
The Fall Fest at the Arboretum was a huge success! Great food. Great entertainment. Great attendance and (thankfully) great weather!
Semple (pictured above) delivered an incredible show and kids lined up to get their picture taken with characters such as Belle (pictured L).
Halloweentown at the Arboretum is open daily for pictures and viewing. So, take advantage of the warm seasonal weather and visit the ghostly graveyards for the best Halloween pictures. Be sure to check out the Arboretum website for the upcoming Halloween events the Arb has planned. You can visit their website by clicking ARBOO-RETUM.
As always, I’m here to listen to your thoughts and concerns. Feel free to email me at pmccombie@southbarrington.org, or use the anonymous comment boxes located in the lobbies of Village Hall and the Police Department. I review these messages privately and value your input.
Enjoy the weekend!
Warm regards,
Paula McCombie
Mayor
