Dear Residents,
I would like to congratulate The Arboretum of South Barrington on being awarded with the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Community Impact Award. The Arboretum has been an asset to the Village and continues to play an active role in our community.
On January 23, I met with U.S. Congressman Quigley in Barrington along with other BACOG representatives. On behalf of South Barrington, I brought forward a request for help in securing additional power supplies from ComEd that would be necessary to support future economic development. I also brought up O’Hare noise levels within flight paths relating to my involvement on the O’Hare Noise Compatibility Commission for our Village.

Robert Alberding, Supervisor, Barrington Township; Dave Burnidge, Trustee, Tower Lakes; Anna Paul, Director of Administration, Barrington Hills; Kimberly Saunders, Executive Director, BACOG; Dana Fritz, Director of Grants and Special Projects for Congressman Mike Quigley.
The Public Hearing for a variance that would permit the harboring and accommodation of a flock of chickens at 13 Beechnut Drive was canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date. Members of the public addressed the Plan Commission on the subject during the public comment period. A Public Hearing requires residents within 250 feet of the property line to be notified by certified letter, stamped 15- days before the Public Hearing. Unfortunately, 5 of the 13 residents requiring notification were not notified within the proper timeframe. When a new date is chosen, a notice will be published in the newspaper, on our Village website, and in this newsletter.
As a reminder, the last day for Groot’s program to recycle live Christmas trees is this Monday, January 29. Please remove all lights, ornaments, garland, and tinsel before putting your tree at the curb. If you need to dispose of old, used or non-working holiday lights, you can recycle them in the bin outside of the Village Hall’s main entrance.
The Village has received numerous calls regarding the recycling of electronics. Our Village waste collector, Groot, will pick up curbside electronics at no additional cost to our residents. In order to request an electronics pick up, please call Groot, at 800-244-1977, by the Friday before the next pickup.
Electronic Waste Items Accepted Include: Cable receivers, cell phones, computer cables, monitors, desktops, laptops, notebooks, tablets, converter boxes, fax machines, keyboards, mice, MP3 Players, Portable Digital Assistants (PDAs), printers and multi-functional printers, satellite receivers, scanners, televisions (all types), video game consoles, video recorders and players, and zip drives. For more information on what to recycle and what other services the Village provides, please click here.
Last Thursday, January 18, Administrator Palmer, Chief Roman and I attended the TE’AMO ribbon cutting ceremony. TE’AMO is a premium bubble tea & dessert café serving high quality drinks made with real loose-leaf teas, organic dairies, delicate cakes, mochi donuts, coconut jellies and more. “We are thrilled to open TE’AMO in The Arboretum. This is a great location for customers to relax and enjoy our healthy teas and treats,” said owner Mia Wan. TE’AMO is located in the Arboretum’s Fashion District next to Evereve. Welcome to South Barrington!
