Dear Residents,
I want to thank the residents of the Woods for their phone calls and emails which alerted me to the poor condition of the roads in the subdivision north of Penny Road. To ensure the safety of our residents when Toll failed to meet their obligation, we had our plows come in to clear these roads. The plows had to make several passes through the neighborhood to remove snow and ice, and an additional piece of equipment was dispatched later in the day to remove remaining ice. The Village will continue to plow these streets until Toll notifies us that they will resume their obligation to the residents of the Woods.
I am pleased to announce that Officer Nicholas Gryzoski took the Oath of Office as a member of the South Barrington Police Department. Officer Gryzoski is a Navy Veteran. He started his 16-week Police Academy training earlier this week and will be back for on-the-job training late April. I congratulate Officer Gryzoski, the Board and I look forward to working with him.

Congressman Krishnamoorthi is having a passport fair in Hoffman Estates on Saturday, January 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event provides an opportunity for everyone in need of a new passport, whether for renewal or as a first-time applicant, to complete their application with expert assistance for any questions. You can find the necessary forms and additional information on the State Department’s website by clicking here. For more information or to RSVP for the event click here.
Winter weather can be unpredictable and safety is always a top priority. The National Weather Service is a great source for up-do-date weather information. Before you travel, I recommend checking the Department of Transportation (IDOT) real-time road condition map, with major intersection snapshots, available on their website.
What roads are the responsibility of the Village?
The Village contracts to Cuba Township for the plowing of Village Roads. The agreement does not include roads that are maintained by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Cook County Department of Transportation, or private homeowner association roads.
* IDOT is responsible for Algonquin, Barrington, Higgins, Palatine, and Route 59 Roads.
* Cook County is responsible for Bartlett, Freeman, Mundhank, and Penny Roads.
* The following homeowner associations are responsible for the removal of snow and ice on their roads: Hidden Lakes, Magnolia Pointe, The Glen, The Regency and Village Enclave.
Toll Brothers is responsible for the removal of snow and ice on their roads in The Woods of South Barrington, north of Penny Road.
Once the contracted Village plows have come through please do not move snow into the streets via snow blower, snow shove, or snow removal service.
When are Village roads plowed? The Village has four (4) designated snowplowing routes in South Barrington. Each route has an assigned driver for the season. Snow and ice removal begins and ends depending on several factors including the expected snowfall amount, temperature, and rate of snowfall. Trucks may pre-treat roads with anti-icing agents prior to an expected snow event in order to minimize snow and ice accumulating on the roads.
A final cleanup of South Barrington may take up to 6-8 hours after the snow event begins to wind down. Main roads will take priority with secondary roads following and cul-de-sacs finished last. Some trucks are large and cul-de-sacs can be challenging. If needed, a smaller truck is used to finish removal on a cul-de-sac the following day.
To make it convenient for residents, we have a NEW form on the Village website to report potholes. Extreme temperatures and snow removal are conducive to creating potholes in addition to normal wear and tear. Report a pothole by clicking here.
The Village website can be a useful tool throughout the year. As mentioned above, there are fillable forms for both the Village as well as the Police Department.
There are several Police forms available online for your convenience:
- Housewatch– Residents fill out this form when they are away from their home. Police can then perform drive-by checks on the home during the residents’ absence.
- Overnight parking– Residents can fill out this form for overnight parking to ensure that a ticket is not given.
- Pet management– Residents can provide information in case of a lost or stolen pet.
Completed forms are added to the police database.
You can always reach me by email at pmccombie@southbarrington.org on our website. Anonymous comment boxes are also available in the lobbies of Village Hall and the Police Department. I read anonymous messages privately, so please do not hesitate to contact me.
Have a safe weekend!
