2024 in Review (Police Department)
As we start a new year, I would like to share with you some of the accomplishments and events that took place in 2024. In this issue of the newsletter, I will highlight the accomplishments within our Police Department during the past year.
First, the South Barrington Police department has hired and promoted several staff this year including:
- Nicholas Gryzoski; officer
- Eric Santiago; officer
- Jocelyn Garza; officer
- Patrick Pagliuco; Part Time officer
- Carter Crokin; officer
- Michael Ornelas; sergeant promotion
- Adam Puralewski; Deputy Chief promotion
- Michael Garrison; Chief promotion
Recognition
The following Police Officers were recognized and awarded the Lifesaving Award for their exceptional actions.
- Officer Parkhill
- Officer Lukowski
- Officer Duhammel
The following personnel were also recognized and received awards for Excellence in Police duty:
- Police Officer Palacios
- Detective Walsh
- Detective Ornelas
Detective Walsh was also awarded an Exceptional Duty Award where his actions prevented further harm, but also exemplified values of selflessness, integrity, and dedication to public safety.
These individuals have gone above and beyond in their service to our community. I thank them for their selfless commitment to keeping South Barrington safe.
Police Equipment
We also were able to make numerous equipment purchases to assist our Police Department in 2024. These equipment purchases include:
- Four (4) new Ford Explorer police vehicles
- A Thermal Monocular, a device capable of detecting people or objects by their heat signatures using sensors. This purchase came from funds available through an Organized Retail Crime grant provided by the Office of the Attorney General, State of Illinois.
- Fleet upgrade to Axon in-car camera systems. This upgrade occurred in May. These cameras work seamlessly with the Axon officer worn body cameras. The department applied for a grant to cover the purchase of these cameras as well as future additional video storage costs through the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board Camera Grant in the amount of $66,400.
- Eight (8) additional FLOCK Cameras for the Village of South Barrington. These cameras are being placed on our County Roads. Flock cameras read license plates and send instant alerts to law enforcement officers on patrol when the cameras identify license plates or vehicles that match those of interest to the police
Next week, I will highlight other accomplishments for the Village in 2024. I hope everyone is having a great 2025 and is staying warm as temperatures continue to drop.
As always, I am here to listen to your thoughts and concerns. Feel free to email me at pmccombie@southbarrington.org, or use the anonymous comment boxes located in the lobbies of Village Hall and the Police Department. I review these messages privately and value your input.
Have a great weekend,
Paula McCombie
Mayor
