Mayor’s Message for Friday, February 3

Dear Residents,
As Mayor, promoting the Village is one of my favorite things to do and we have a lot to talk about in South Barrington. Next week, the Barrington Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring an Economic Summit as they have in years past. I will be a part of a panel with fellow Barrington area Mayors to provide an update on new development. I’m excited about this opportunity because economic development is a key priority.
We have recently executed a contract with Banner, a Chicago firm that specializes in producing promotional campaigns. You may have heard of some of their exciting work for the Village of Elk Grove. Our focus with Banner will be to bring attention to our properties along the I-90 corridor as well as other vacant properties available for development in the village. Not only will Banner highlight the quality of life in South Barrington, but also the many unique opportunities we have for shopping, dining, entertainment and recreation.
As residents, we all know that our location cannot be beat. Our proximity to O’Hare and downtown Chicago from I-90 is a major selling point to capitalize on. I believe this new promotional campaign will attract interest in our Village, particularly with corporations looking to expand or relocate. Ideally, there will be a domino effect with a positive impact on residential property interest as well.
Another point I will make at the Chamber Economic Summit will be the positive changes at the Arboretum. A number of new stores have opened in the Arboretum in the last year including Star Cinema Grill, Daily Thread, Scoop Society, and Sugaring NYC. The glass exhibition space that was constructed and utilized during the holidays was popular. A Tesla Super Charging Station is now available on-site for those with an electric car. The Dawg Park Grill is a new casual dining option which should open sometime soon.
Finally, this next week will be bitter-sweet as we say good-bye to our long-time Finance Director Michelle Bodie who is leaving the Village to move closer to family in Iowa. Michelle has done a great job since joining the Village staff in 2002. We are happy for her and wish her all the best – but we will definitely miss her.
You can always reach me by email at pmccombie@southbarrington.org or on our website. Anonymous comment boxes are also available in the lobbies of Village Hall and the Police Department. I read anonymous messages privately, so please do not hesitate to contact me.
Have a great weekend!
Paula McCombie
Mayor
