Dear Residents,
You may have heard about the burglary that happened last weekend in The Glen neighborhood. Officers found that burglars entered a home by breaking a window while the residents were away for the evening. The burglars ransacked several rooms in the house and took jewelry and other items. Our Detectives are following up on possible leads.
To help prevent burglars from targeting your home, please leave lights on inside and outside when you’re away. Also, avoid posting your whereabouts on social media. If you have an alarm system, use it whenever you leave. If you’re going away for a while, consider using our Vacation House Watch program to have officers check on your property periodically.
Chief Roman reported that the other two suspects from the stolen truck incident last week have been arrested and charged by the Elmhurst Police Department. No one else is being sought in that case.
As a reminder, there is a Plan Commission meeting scheduled for Monday, February 26 at 7:00 pm. This Public Hearing includes a request for a roof-mounted solar panel variance (mounted panels on the front street side roof of the home) and the continuation of the proposed residential development of 26 homes located at the corner of Mundhank and Freeman Roads. Unfortunately, the livestock variance for chickens originally scheduled for this meeting was not properly noticed, so we will be unable to conduct the Public Hearing for the request. During this meeting, the letters and emails received regarding Area N will be read into the record. The public is welcome at our meetings and I encourage you to attend so you may be informed and have the opportunity to share your opinions and ideas.
At the end of the month, we will be wrapping up our Light Recycling program for the season. Please drop off your used, old or broken holiday lights at the main entrance of the Village Hall, 30 S. Barrington Road. The following items are accepted: mini-lights (or Italian lights), C7 lights, C9 lights, rope lights, LED lights, and extension cords.
Next Friday, I will highlight some of last year’s achievements.
As always, I can be reached by email at pmccombie@southbarrington.org or online through our website here. I can also be reached through the anonymous comment boxes located in the Village Hall and Police Department lobbies. I read anonymous messages privately, so please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss any matter.
Enjoy your weekend!
Paula McCombie
Mayor
