Dear Residents,
On Monday, April 10th at 7 p.m. in Rose Hall, the Plan Commission will resume the public hearing for the Village’s Comprehensive Plan. All residents interested in commenting on the Comprehensive Plan should plan to attend.
The election results are in Hina Patel, Steve Guranovich and Edgar Alvarado were each re-elected to serve a four-year term as Trustee on the Village Board. Dr. Kanu Pachal was also elected to serve a two-year term as Trustee on the Board. I am excited to continue to work together, and move forward, on the growth and development of the Village!
Police Chief Tom Roman, Village Administrator Bob Palmer and I attended the Schaumburg Post Office Dedication Ceremony in honor of Veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan on April 3. The dedication identified the United States Postal Service located at 450 West Schaumburg, Illinois, as the “Veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan Memorial Post Office Building.” This designation was made by an act of Congress as Public Law 117-295, which was sponsored by Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. It was an honor to be in attendance.
April is Illinois Safe Digging Month. If you have a landscaping or planting project that would require a shovel in the ground be sure to contact JULIE first. This service is free to you and your contractor. It could save you from costly utility repairs, serious injury or fines. In 2022, the state issued 53 warnings and 113 citations for safe digging violations resulting in $396,558 in penalties. Violations were issued to excavators and homeowners for not having a valid locate request, not carefully digging around marked underground facilities, and failure to mark their facilities in a timely manner. JULIE’s request system is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, either by phone at 811 or 800-892-0123 or online at www.illinois1call.com.
Residents of the Woods of South Barrington and Village Enclave will receive notice of required RPZ (Reduced Pressure Zone) device testing with your April water bill. RPZ backflow prevention devices are designed to stop contamination from getting into the water supply. The IEPA which monitors water quality requires RPZ valves be tested at least annually. Only a licensed plumber with a Cross Connection Certification License can test and certify the proper operation of an RPZ valve. Once the valve is tested, the certification paperwork must be forwarded to the Village to keep on file for IEPA compliance. Residents on private wells are also required to have RPZ devices on vulnerable connections, such as irrigation systems, and perform annual testing of devices. The certification of testing does not need to be sent to the Village for private wells.
You can always reach me by email at pmccombie@southbarrington.org on our website. Anonymous comment boxes are also available in the lobbies of Village Hall and the Police Department. I read anonymous messages privately, so please do not hesitate to contact me.
Have a Happy Holiday!
Paula McCombie
