Part-Time Police Officer

PART-TIME POLICE OFFICER

South Barrington is an exceptional community. The South Barrington Police Department is seeking candidates who are looking for an active, challenging and unique career where they can make a difference serving as a Part–Time Police Officer.

South Barrington is home to The Arboretum Lifestyle Shopping Center, a 24-screen AMC Theater and Willow Creek Community Church, one of the largest congregations in the United States. It is also home to Goebbert’s Farm and Garden Center. Each year Goebbert’s Fall Festival brings thousands of visitors to our community for what many consider an annual family tradition. We have much to keep us busy serving our community.

Our Police Department serves the community with 20 full-time police officers,  5 part-time police officers, two full-time records clerks and a full-time administrative assistant. South Barrington has 5,077 residents, an area of eight square miles, and is a home rule community.

Our standards are high. We are looking for candidates with a strong attention to detail – those who are dutiful, conscientious and can easily handle with ease a position where no two days are alike.  In return, we offer the opportunity to join a professional organization performing critical work every day in a way that earns the trust and respect of the South Barrington community while honoring the Department’s core values of Honor, Integrity and Respect.

Village ordinance requires that applicants be a certified police officer in good standing, having been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board under Section 8.1 of the Illinois Police Training Act (50 ILCS 705/8.1), and:

  • Currently working as a full-time police officer for an Illinois law enforcement agency; or
  • Retired as a full-time officer from an Illinois law enforcement agency; or,
  • Laid off as a full-time officer from an Illinois law enforcement agency.

Our part-time application and selection process has been carefully designed to move quickly. We will not waste your time.

The first step in the process for applying for this opportunity is completing a Culture Index survey which will take less than 10 minutes.  In addition to reviewing the applicant’s qualifications and experience, we use the Culture Index survey to help better identify overall fit and how individuals prefer to be managed, motivated and communicated with.  Simply copy and paste the following link into your browser:
