Part-Time Police Officer

PART-TIME POLICE OFFICER

South Barrington is an exceptional community. The South Barrington Police Department is seeking candidates who are looking for an active, challenging and unique career where they can make a difference serving as a Part–Time Police Officer.

South Barrington is home to The Arboretum Lifestyle Shopping Center, a 24-screen AMC Theater and Willow Creek Community Church, one of the largest congregations in the United States. It is also home to Goebbert’s Farm and Garden Center. Each year Goebbert’s Fall Festival brings thousands of visitors to our community for what many consider an annual family tradition. We have much to keep us busy serving our community.

Our Police Department serves the community with 20 full-time police officers,  5 part-time police officers, two full-time records clerks and a full-time administrative assistant. South Barrington has 5,077 residents, an area of eight square miles, and is a home rule community.

Our standards are high. Village ordinance requires that applicants be a certified police officer in good standing, having been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board under Section 8.1 of the Illinois Police Training Act (50 ILCS 705/8.1), and:

  • Currently working as a full-time police officer for an Illinois law enforcement agency; or
  • Retired as a full-time officer from an Illinois law enforcement agency; or,
  • Laid off as a full-time officer from an Illinois law enforcement agency.

Full-Time Police Officer

FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER

Position Title: Police Officer

The South Barrington Police Department is hiring for the position of Police Officer.

Candidates are required to complete the following by May 30, 2025, no later than 5:00 PM to be considered for the role:

  •  National Testing Networks (NTN) Frontline National Exam
  •  Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ)
  •  Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA)

Salary Information: $78,090 – $117,148

Job Requirements:

  •  Age: At least 21 years old, and under 35 years old, or as permitted by law
  •  Citizenship Required: Yes, United States Citizen• High School Grad/GED• Valid ILLINOIS Driver’s License• Ability to Read/Speak English
  •  College: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university OR an Honorable Discharge from the United States Military
  •  Successful completion of the Police Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) test on or after May 30, 2024, at one of the following testing facilities:

 Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy (NIPSTA) in Glenview

 Joliet Junior College in Joliet

Hiring Process:

  •  Schedule and complete the Public Safety Self-Assessment and Frontline National Exam through National Testing Network before the application deadline
  •  Complete an application with the Village of South Barrington Police Officer

Power Test:

The Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board established the Peace Officer Wellness

Evaluation Report (POWER) Test as a physical assessment tool for entry to Illinois police academies. The test was created in recognition of the importance of physical fitness in the performance of essential law enforcement duties. The test requires police officer candidates to engage in the following activities:

  •  Sit and Reach Test
  •  One Repetition Maximum Bench Press
  •  One Minute Sit-Up Test
  •  1.5 Mile Run

The test is graded on a pass/fail basis. Applicants must complete all four exercises to pass the test. More information on the POWER test can be found at:
